Bad recording with POD FARM and pod studio GX

hello,my name is Alex,I bought the line 6 pod studio GX interface 4 days ago. I installed POD FARM and everything I had to,and it's running great. But when I record, the recorded audio doesn't come out the same way it sounds when I'm playing in at the moment. To be more clear, when I'm playing without recording it's great. When I record what I'm playing,it sounds really bad. I don't know what to do,I tried different settings and...no luck. I'm using both Cubase and Audacity to record...please tell me what to do

Can you describe how it sounds bad or post a clip?

first thing to do is lose audacity... doesn't support the required ASIO drivers properly if at all...

if you need a low cost alternative try reaper it's free to try and only 40$ if you want to get a full license http://reaper.fm

what i suspect the root of your problem might be... is your input choice in your software...

you might have the dry track selected... or might not have a choice to do otherwise... because audacity doesn't support ASIO drivers properly.

    anyway just some ideas.

    Hi,

can you post an example of the audio problem you get? what version of cubase do you use?

      Hi guys,

I'm using the POD Farm plugin for some time and I think I understand the problem here. I myself desided to search for the answer to it and found this thread...

So hopefully I'll describe it the way it was meant and everybody would understand:

Lets say you want to record a perfect full (perfect bass, mid and high frequencies) sound you have set up in the plugin and hear in the headphones. You fire the plugin, choose the preset, open the DAW software and begin to record. After you've finished the recording, you hit playback to check the recorded sound and... surprise. It sounds different. Recording sounds dull, narrow, like it has lost the high end of the sound you heard in headphones before. Simply, like there was some kind of low pass filter or EQ applied during recording.

Believe me, I've tried everything to fix this problem, but I couldn't find out, what's causing it (so I just learned to live with it - and basically not really record with POD Farm that much anymore...). I'm not sure if the problem occures all the time, but definitely most of the time, and I've tried running the software on several computers but with the same results.

It's wonderful piece of software and I would really appreciate if anybody who has the same issue and knows the solution, could post it here for us too, please.

BTW: I think it is quite impossible to attach the sound sample for this issue as you can see... There is no way to record the full sound you hear...

      Thanks!

      Lemmon

Siriously! I'm having the Same Dang Problem! I JUST Baught a BRAND NEW TOP OF THE LINE iMac 27" Computer With a Quad Core Intel i7 Proccessor. It has 1TB of HDD Space, and 4GB of Memory (RAM) Witch will be upgraded to 16GB Soon (16 is the Highest it Will go). And I Bought Logic Studio, wich Comes With the Latest Version of Logic Pro 9 witch has Full 64 Bit Capabilites, So When I Upgrade my RAM to 16GB, it Will be able to take advantage of it. I've Baught The Line 6 UX2 Studio POD and Had the Same Issue With my Crappy PC. Witch it Why I Switched over to Mac to See If It Would Help. But NO, It Sure Didn't. I Mean Don't Get Me Wrong, I have no lagg issues anymore because my iMac Is Crazy Fast, But this is Rediculous! It Sounds Perfect Through the Headphones BEFORE you Record. Then, When you Record, It Sounds Way Different from the Amp Modle That you picked and has a Static Breaking Up Noise. I Baught a Brand New Guitar Cable to see if that was it, but it was not the Problem. My Guitar is Not a Gibson, But its a $400 Epiphone Les Paul Standard with 2 Humbucker Pickup's in It. My Microphone is an Audio Technica AT2020 Condeser Mic. (XRL) and Same thing Happends with it too! Line 6, Fix This Problem! Now! Or take your Products Off the Market. P.S. I'm Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7

Yeah, line 6, Hi, this crap isn't resolved, i hate to be an ***, but you've left some people in the dark with this one. NOT COOL.

Anyways, plug in, or standalone, no matter WHAT DAW i am using, Reaper, Pro tools, FL Studio, etc, i still always get the 'dissapointing' sound from my recording, and i actually LIKE using my UX2 because i believe it can produce some MAJOR awesome sounds, but if i can't even track what i hear, what's the point of even using it?

I've always tried to get around these issues by compression, effects in the DAW, or whatever, but it still leaves me kinda ****** that the patches i had worked so hard on account for nothing.

Yes, for me, for everyone else with this issue, can we PLEASE find a resolution to this, and not say it's "ASSUMED ANSWERED?"

Re: Bad recording with POD FARM and pod studio GX

Same problem here :< I've been trying to solve this problem for 2 days now trying out different settings, programs ,PCs and nothing. The sound i hear is really good but the recorded sound is lacking ALOT of quality(I totally agree with lemmon).I'd say it sounds only somewhat better compared recording with a cellphone >_< (of course without the noise). I'm really disappointed cuz i had high hopes

    I tried:

    Goldwave

    Audacity

    Mixcraft 5

    FL studio

    Kristal

    Ableton

In every program the sound quality is the same. I get no noise and stuff like that its perfect before I try to RECORD. Btw i don't have any other USB devices connected to my pc other than Line 6 GX. Im using a gold Monster Rock cable for my guitar so i doubt its the guitar cable... So now maybe YOU guys tell me why this isn't working as it should?

Guess I'll have ot buy a shure sm57 and a mixer afterall cuz this isn't working as i hoped -_- The only cool thing is i can connect via the line output my 2nd amp and use it as a speaker lolz.

I am having loads of fun using your stuff, but if I can't record it with decent quality its next to useless. This post has been here for ages as ASSUMED ANSWERED but it's NOT. Say something already!

Re: Bad recording with POD FARM and pod studio GX

Damn it....same problem for me....I'm using reaper....I have a few guitars to choose from and the all sound great when just using pod farm for playing but when I record the sound is terrible, like a thinner version of the original sound with very little clarity and definition....Some help would be appreciated Line-6 PLEASE....it makes me mad that I bought pod farm 2 + a shortboard mk2 and can't use them to record in my home studio that I am building....please give us an answer.

BTW has anybody tried with a different emulator like ezmix2 or stuff from native instruments to check if they have the same problem ?

Pretty bad that this thread was started 2 years ago and still hasn't been answered. Same problem with me. I use Acidpro 7. Tones sound amazing and brilliant...Until I record them. The recorded file sounds dull like there's no life in it at all. Nothing like how it sounded while I was playing it. It'd really be nice if someone had an answer for this.

the answer might be in how you are monitoring them...

do you have the same speakers to playback as you do record?

are you recording different output mode than you play in?

noone can do this for you though really... your ears are the judge here... all we can do is point you towards things that may help.

Re: Bad recording with POD FARM and pod studio GX

You shouldn't dredge up old threads if you have a problem, start a new one and give us all the details.  When people say it 'sounds great when recording but doesn't sound the same when playing back', it usually means they are recording the straight guitar signal, not the processed one.  This can happen if you are using PodFarm in 'stand alone' mode - you need to make sure the input of your DAW is pointed to PodFarm and not to your interface (GX or UX1 or any other audio interface).

Of course the best away around this is to use PodFarm as a plugin on the FX of the track in your DAW - this way you can actually change settings after recording to tweak the sound the way you want it.
