  You do it from Line 6 monkey.

   

  If you run Monkey, and your 69 is connected to your PC through the USB dongle to the 69, Monkey should list the 69 in its list. You then choose to update it to v1.70.

    You are correct, however it turns out there was an extra step. I also had to connect a 1/4" cable to the Variax to make it think I was playing guitar, so it would turn on. Worked great. Thanks for the help!
