Podxt Live with Spider II 30 - Can't get a "nice" sound

I've had my Podxt Live for about 3 years now and can't say I've ever had a great tone coming from any amp I've plugged into.
I have a Spider II 30 (with the drive at 0 and bass, mid and treble at 12 o clock (i believe this is for a flat eq?)) and play a Jackson RR5 with the original Seymour Duncan humbucker pickups and no matter how much I mess with the on board amp settings the sound always come out "light" and "thin".
I'd love to get the "Marshall sound" coming out but I don't know where to start to get it. I downloaded a few of the custom tones and they were almost there. I think (I really don't have a clue lol) my problem is the EQ settings and I'm not 100% sure how to set them or what to set them for.
It's probably a really naive question but I've been surfing the web and forums for about 2 weeks straight now and can't find an answer to my supidity lol
I've got my clean sound sorted to a degree (it's about 90% there) but the distortion is evading me. ![]()
I would love to get a similar tone to Zakk Wylde (Steel Dragon sound). I play balls to the wall rock and roll in the band I'm in.
Any and all help is welcome and thanks in advance for your feedback and patience.

Hi,
Try starting off with a preset in the XT live and tweak from there, it's always easier than starting from scratch.
Also, if you are plugged into the front of the Spider II I would start out on a clean setting with all of the knobs (including drive) at 12 o clock and tweak from there.
Don't worry about a "flat" EQ, just do what sounds good to your ears.
Also, check out our creating and balancing tones doc, it should help you get started:
