DT50 failed 1st time out

All, for info, posted this in the support forum but no responses, just wondering if anyone has experienced the same? Think I am going to wait until this has been on the market a while before I plunge again

Thanks

Keith

Got the HD500 and DT50 2x12 rig last week and was really looking forward to the pairing. Had first rehearsal with it last night and suffered a failure 3 times in as many hours.

When switching patches volume cut to a almost inaudible "fizz" like a model of a rockman but at half power, hardly any volume at all and no amount of switching patches back an forth would alter the sound. Neither any controls on the HD500 OR the DT50 would affect anything, tried all the topology swiches, channel switches, even master volume didnt work. Stuck / Sticking relays or something?

Resorted to turning the amp to standby - didnt fix it but turning the amp off and then on again did fix it, sound back to normal. did this another 2 times throughout the night, observed tube protocol by allowing to go to standby for a while, then fully off, then back on in stanby for a while etc etc -  not a recipe for a good gig!. Obviously cant rely on it for this weekends triple header, very disappointed. Bandmates just staring saying "whats up with it" not what I had in mind, calling the dealer today, its going back, I need reliabilty

perhaps you got a bad one? hopefully they can get you a replacement. i don't hear about these kinds of issues frequently.

yeah... even the 112 i have is insanely heavy... i mean... i'm considering casters for a 112!!! hahah

perhaps that's part of the non-monetary cost of a quality build... mine does sound great and has no issues...

the tolex does seem a little on the light side... i know it's not popular with the vintage look...

but i prefer the carpet style coverings like on the lowdowns.... just more rugged/durable.

of course the LD400, did come with the side handles and casters its a 210, and probably around the same weight as the 212-DT50

it really is amazing technology... hopefully you'll get around to trying it again when you are more comfortable doing so.

sorry to hear you had issues with yours. i have the DT-50 1x12 combo, and have been gigging it HARD for months, riding it hard and put away wet, with no issues so far. it rides in the band trailer, endures heat and vibration on the road, many many setups and tear downs, and still not one issue yet.

but it's HEAVY. i think the only amp i have had that was as heavy as this one was a Mesa Trremoverb 2x12!

paired with the HD500, it's a really great gigging rig. even my drummer loves the sound of the DT-50 over any other amp i use. and that's saying something -- drummers usually don't notice!

I had a few issues or quirks out of the gate with mine. However with installing the updates (hope you did this) as well as edit updates I have had no (thankfully) issues since. It is extremely heavy I agree with handles and corner protection. The very first time I took my precious new amp to a practice I had ripped the tolex in 2 places and I swear I bearly bumped the thing. Sound wise I don't want to go back to anything else and it has been reliable machine since updates.

Re: DT50 failed 1st time out

I basically have this same problem.  Shortly after getting it, the volume started acting squirelly at a gig.  I switched out guitars, patch cords, the XLR connection.  Ended up running it almost at full just to get enough sound on stage (I am not a loud player) .  Took it home and tried to get the problem to occure again and it was fine.  Several months gigging, same problem.  I bought an AES EBU cable, thinking that was the problem.  Worked for several months, same thing.  Last week, failed on stage completely. Had to run the HD 500 directly to FOH.  I had gotten in the habit of carrying a back up amp to every gig! and I spent $2000 bucks on this rig and it dies at sound check for a gig with 2,000 people. Take it home = WORKS FINE!  I am frustrated, ****** off. I have know idea if it is still under warrenty. The thought of dealing with all of that repair hassell, and it'l probably work just fine on the bench.  Off to a gig today, will have to carry 2 amps again.  Not sure what to do at this point.

    David
