Bass Pod XT Live through an effects loop?

I currently have my Bass Pod XT Live hooked right into a power amp, and that works well. However, I plan on getting a new preamp and hooking the XT Live through the effects loop and using it strictly as an effects processor. Will this work well? Has anybody had any experience with this? Thank you for any information you can provide.
