DT 50 Firmware-why different for 2-12, 1-12, head only ?

I completed my firmware update last week, and although it is completed, and sounds great, there were some issues.  During the update there was a loss of connection, and I had to switch interfaces to the Midi Sport UNO, and the Monkey kept recognizing my 2-12 as a 1-12, and trying to load wrong firmware. Each time that I selected to change devices, it kept selecting DT -50 1—12.  Anyway, I manually performed the update after downloading the 2-12 firmware, but I'm wondering why there are different firmware updates for an amp that essentially is the same except for Speakers.  I know that the 2-12 does Have one different speaker than the 1-12, and the head/4-12 has 2 of that speaker, but that shouldn't require a different firmware set up,..(should it ?).  BTW, As far as the latest firmware,.. I don't remember the output mode always changing to Combo Power Amp when using L6 Link previously, and I don't like this feature.  I basically use 5 different preamps models, and prefer the sound when it set to Studio Output.

I had the same issue with my DT50 HD.  It kept telling me I had a 112 also.  Had to buy a midi uno thing for $40 and I don't hear a bit of difference.

The only thing they say is that the L6 link works better.  If they do any more updates, at least I'll have it at the ready.

Can anyone explain a little better what the upgrade does?

you'd really have to know which version of the firmware you had previous to know what changes happened with the latest...

but typically they are tweaks to the operation, and efforts to minimize the noises etc from switching topologies... things like that...

in some cases changes are needed to accomodate changes in the pod hd's as well... they are certainly worth doing.

i do know that the firmware DOES autoselect the output mode based on what it's plugged into...

don't think that there is a current way to bypass this....

and i know of others that have their DT50 mis-identified by monkey, (212's showing as 112's etc)

to my knowledge they've been allowing monkey to flash with whatever it wants....

i've heard of no harm coming from this... not heard any benefits of cross-flashing either...
