Why is Dr Distorto battery life so short, and why won't adapters work?

I can not get through a band practice without the red "replace battery" indicator light flashing on my DR Distorto pedal. And I can not get any AC adapter to work, even though all the specs match EXACTLY with what is asked for. Finally, I can't register my product with Line 6 because it says my serial number is invalid, even though it is the Line 6 website that automatically put that serial number in when I chose my pedal from their drop down list.

Great sounding pedal, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Not the greatest first impression of Line 6, for sure.
