Why does my Sm58 makes a small sound through Line6 GX?

I am having a problem using an sm58 mic and a Line6 GX as an external usb audio interface. This is extremely irritating as the Shure sm58 is fairly expensive. Why does it produce little to no sound when being used? I use it on Ableton Live and a mac but that can't be the reason right? If anyone could help me with this problem id appreciate it so so much as it is stressing me out big time!
