POD HD500 expression pedal bug when used with POD HD500 Edit software

I searched the forum but have not seen anything related to this and I'd like to report it as a bug if it hasn't been.  When I connect my HD500 to my laptop via USB, and use the POD HD500 Edit software, both the onboard expression pedal and the Line 6 EX1 expression pedal have some weird behavior.  Both pedals will forget what they are supposed to control and become inoperative when changing patches, either after editing or not.  For instance, I'll have the HD500 on patch 1A, and the EX1 pedal set to control volume for a patch that is configured for that.  When I switch to patch 1B, which is also configured to use the EX1 for volume, the EX1 will no longer control volume (or anything else), and when I switch back to patch 1A, it will still not control volume.  This is with no edits.  Once I unplug the USB cable for the computer and change patches or power off/on, the EX1 will correctly control volume when switching back between 1A and 1B.  It is reproducable.  I have the latest Monkey, firmware, and HD500 edit.

Additionally, if I edit 1A via HD500 edit with the USB cable in to switch the onboard expression pedal from Exp1 to Exp2 (red light/green light), then save the patch, whether saving on the HD500 directly, or sending the patch via patch edit, it will forget the configuration of the onboard Exp pedal, (it would go back to Exp1 and no longer control volume or anything else).  I noticed this when downloading some patches where some patches had Exp1 as volume and some had Exp2 as volume.  I did not own the EX1 at the time and it is not a part of this issue.  I wanted all patches to have the volume pedal set to the same and active without toe switching for consistency in live performance.  I don't want to have to remember that some patches require me to toe switch the volume on because it's not already set by default.  I tried making all the patches Exp1, and tried making them all Exp2, same result, it would forget the settings.  This wasn't just for downloaded patches, either, I reproduced it on new patches I created as well.  Once you unplug the USB and manually edit, these problems go away.

I have not tested to see if similar issues happen when using the wah, I'm just not a wah guy.

I've also noticed some inconsistency in saving patches.  Sometimes the edits don't send correclty back to the HD500.  I have not figured out the pattern how to exactly reproduce this, but it's definitely happened.

I'd like to know if I'm the only one that has noticed this inconsistent behavior when using the HD500 Edit software, and whether or not it's on the list to be fixed. What's the point of having the HD500 Edit software if it can't manage Exp pedal configuration or have inconsistent saves back to the HD500?  I have used Gearbox for many years now with a Guitarport, so I prefer the computer interface to edit patches instead of doing it directly on the HD500, it's just more intuitive for me.  It was a big selling point for me to buy the rig, so I'd like to see it fixed.  As it stands, it makes it difficult to edit patches.  I'd like to have all my patches use the EX1 for volume, then be able to configure either gain or delay mix with the onboard Exp.  I can do it directly on the HD500, but I can't use the Edit software to make the editing job easier, which sucks.

    Fred,

I was unable to set this up properly, but perhaps I missed something.

Can you please provide a step by step recipe on how to recreate this problem such as:

      1.  Plug this in...

      2.  Start this up...

      3.  Do this...

      4.  Etc.

Simplifying your description would help immensely with problems like these.

Also, does this problem happen only when plugged into Edit or when used by itself as well?  Keep in mind, that when in the Edit program, all adjustments should be made in the program itself.

      Regards,

I've experienced the same issue from time to time - even today. The expression pedal becomes inactive, and won't control anything, or even turn on/off, while HD Edit is connected. I've experienced this using the expression pedal as a volume, and as a wah.

    Hi,

I also experience the exact same problem!

I want to have the onboard HD500 pedal to control the volume, and use an external Expression pedal (In my case I use a Roland expression, think it's called FV-300) hooked up with a stereo jack cable. The Idea is to use the external pedal to control WAH.

I use the editor to set up the volume to be controlled by EXP-2, the WAH on EXP-1, and that works fine with the onboard pedal. But when I then plug in the external expression pedal, things act strange....

The external pedal is now suddely controlling the volume (As EXP-2) and the on-board pedal is now assigned to EXP-1. I have not done any changes in the editor or on the HD500. And this also affect the other patches I got on the HD500 - The EXP-1 and EXP-2 are mysteriously switched....

Somehow it's when I plug in the external pedal AND have the HD500 hooked up via USB to my MAC that these strange things happen. It works if I unplug the USB and manually edit the settings on the HD500 - Then it "remembers" the EXP-1/2 - WAH/Volume settings.

This is very frustrating, because it is a pain to edit the patches on the HD500 compared to doing it in the editor software! It seems to me that this is software related, and that the problem lies in the editor.

I am therefore crossing my fingers and hope to see a software-update from Line 6 that can address this.....

Similar or same things happen here.

    1. Start the Pod with EXP-2 plugged in.
    2. Start pc editor

    3. Select any patch from the factory or user list

    4. In 3 of 4 times it looks that the on board pedal works as EXP-2 and the external pedal as EXP-1 but mostly I don't hear any parameter changes.

    5. Pull the external pedal out and plug it in. - Everything works as expected now.

    6. Select any patch from the factory or user list

    7. I am at 4. again.
That is definetely annoying and after the fifth or sixth time I want to hurt anybody.
I have a pod hd 500, firmware 1.40, editor 1.06., a Roland EV-5 expression pedal  and everything worked pretty until I changed to the new editor and firmware.

has LINE6 fixed this ? I just bought the HD500 and I CANNOT change any pedal assignments thru the Editor, I used to test software and this is what I would call a "shipp issue"...I waited for months in hopes that Line6 would have this software working (because they always ship buggy ware as long as it seems to work in the hardware)...Line6 i the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow...lame.
