Has anyone gone HD500 into a DT50/25 Cab (w/o the DT50/25 amp)

Hello,

I just got my HD500 a week ago, and I'm pouring over all the features and getting familliar with the unit. I have purchased a Power Enging 60 for gigging, but as I await its delivery I wonder if the DT25/50 extension cabinet might be the same kind of good fit for the unit? I searched the forums but haven't found anything about this combination of products. Does anyone use this? How does it sound? It seems that if one was happy with the sounds from the HD500, the extension cab might be a good choice, for $300.

You wouldn't be able to just plug the HD500. You would need an amp to power it. I wish they did have a $300-$400 powered option optimized for the POD HD though.

Not sure what jason is talking about...A power engine is a power amp...

You should be able to power the DT25 112 cab with the power engine just fine. Seems to me that it would be a good fit...The speaker is a GH-90...Same speaker used in the Vetta...If you really wanted to match up then you might wat to consider popping in a V30 so you use the mix like the DT50 212 and DT50 412 cabs do...

The stock Seventy80 that is in the Power Engine is very similar to the GH90...GH90 is tighter I think...

  my understanding was that jason was saying he couldnt use the dt cab instead of the powerengine...
  
  its unclear if thats what the original poster intended... both answers are good...
  question probably needs clarified to know which answer applies here.

    Exactly. Honestly, even if I had misunderstood the original message, I don't see how you could have misunderstood what I was talking about.
    
    Anyway, hopefully karmicFreak will chime in here, but when he said "...as I await its delivery I wonder if the DT25/50 extension cabinet might be the same kind of good fit for the unit?" That reads as though he is asking if you could use the DTxx Extension cab in place of the power engine. That's why he said if it sounded good it would be a good choice for $300.

      my bad, I never saw where he said he would use it in place of....I just thought he was wondering about using it as an extension on the Power Engine 60 he bought...I did not interpret that meaning "in place of"...my bad...

      I was assuming the dt 50/25 cabs were powered amps, instead of what I'm learning here, that they are just speakers in a pretty cab, powered by the dt amp itself. My thought was that if it was a power amp and speaker, it would be a good fit for the hd500. It seems that an external power amp would be needed to make this setup work, however.
