Can I use a friend's shortboard to update my Spider IV?

I recently bought a Spider IV HD150 and would like to update it. Unfortunately, I do not have any MKII fotswitches that are required to do this. A friend of mine does have an FBV shortboard MKII with USB. Can I just borrow his and update my amp?

Along the same lines, a general comment; I love Line6 amps and own three Spiders...a Spider II 150, a Spider III HD75 and a Spider IV HD150 Half Stack. It really urks me that Line6 would make a product that requires you to spend an additional $200 to get a footswitch that has the capability to update the amps. Would it really have been that difficult or cost prohibitive to add a friggin USB port to the amp itself?! After all, it is used to update the AMP, not the PEDAL, so why put the only way to update the amp on a footswitch/pedal board that is not included when you buy the amp?
