POD HD500 & Edit issues

Hello all
I have had my POD HD500 for just under a week now and I am having problems with it.
I have read similar post relating to the same problems, however the suggestions do not seem to be a permanent fix.
The problems I have experienced so far are:
I just managed to get the pedal working properly having done several calibrations and I can live with the preset load; but the pod still makes a high pitched squeal when using the edit software.
I have re-installed the latest pod firmware and edit software twice now!
My PC is not the problem as it is good spec:
Intel i5 2500K CPU
Windows 7 64 bit ultimate
16G of low latency RAM
SSD etc.
I never experienced problems with Digitech RP500
Has everyone experienced these problems, or have I purchased one of the 'bad batch'??
Thanks
Jordan
Don't hold your breath on the EDIT software. Line 6 is working on a fix right now. I am resorting to setting the POD up at chest level while I am sitting at the computer and editing strictly on the unit. Not the end of the world, and no squealing. This also confirms that the problem is within EDIT, not the POD itself.
The presets take a long time to load because there are so many. If you want it to load faster, delete some presets.
Don't worry about having a "dud". Very few have been reported.

Interesting idea - have you tried this? I would be surprised if there's any difference. The HD Editor makes no disctinction between a 'deleted' preset and a complicated preset. Of course, you can't actually delete a preset - all you can do is replace a preset with an 'empty' one that has all values essentially zeroed out. But the editor still loads all 512 presets, and I would think it takes just as long for the Editor to load a preset with all values=0 as a preset with all values not= 0.
Hahaha, full disclosure:
I haven't tried it. I just downloaded a few customtone presets of varying complexity and they all came out to the same size...but I have a hard time seeing how a blank patch could also be that size.

Because every patch/preset requires the full set of available parameter values to be stored, and hence is the same 'size'. The same amount of internal RAM memory in the Editor is required to hold each preset. And every bit (literally, in bit/byte terms) has to be set to some value to represent the parameter value. It takes just as long, and just as much memory, to set the bits/bytes to a value of 0 as it does to set it to a value of 127 (or whatever other combination of 1's and 0's fills the allotted memory space).
Think of it this way. Your kitchen probably has a refrigerator. Does the floor/wall space required for the refrigerator change depending on how full/empty it is?
I see what you mean, but the fridge does require more power if it is empty ![]()
True - and a preset with amps and FX creates a more powerful impression on your audience than an empty preset!!
Fill 'er up!!

- The unit makes a horrible high pitched squeal when using the edit software
- The expression would not calibrate correctly (wouldn't set to 0)
- The HD edit program loads to pedals preset quite slowly

1. This is a known issue. Line 6 is working on this on top priority basis. An interim fix is expected very soon, withn days I believe. Keep any eye out for a firmware/Editor update.
2. This problem has been reported occasionally. Here are some relevant threads with suggested fixes:

3. I don't know exactly whether your experience is slower than usual. There's actually a lot of presets being loaded (512). On my system this can take 20 seconds or so. If yours is significantly longer there may be an issue; but if it's in that range I would consider it normal behaviour.
Thanks for the reply guys.
The main reason for the post is the piercing high pitch noise, so hopefully Line 6 will sort this out soon! (making/editing patches via the tiny screen on the POD itself is just annoying)
As for the software taking time to load: it probably is within the 20 seconds period, just wasn't sure whether this was normal as other brand FX units load up almost instantly. Must just be the spec of the PODs hardware...
I do really like the sounds I am able to get out of this, just a bit disappointed to have had these issues pretty much straight out of the box.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
