hey guys im looking to add a cab to my dt 50 112 combo amp, after looking up the specs of teh dt 25 112 extension cab it seems to have the same speaker thats in my dt 50 112, so would this be the best suited cab for my amp or should i get the dt50 412 cab???
also im looking to make my amp louder, im not sure how this whole volume thing works but if i was to buy another dt 50 combo amp can i run them in series to get a combined power output of 100w?? or it doesnt work like that?
You could run the DT25 cabinet, but the form factor doesn't seem right to me...DT50112 is quite a bit wider...Running the amp at 4 ohms will give you a tad more power...More sources (speakers) in the form of an additional cabinet or using a 412 will give you more perceived volume...more sources move more air...
Yes, if you got a second DT50 you would have combined power of 100 watts...There are many ways you could run two DT50s...probably the easiest would be to use the Line 6 Link to link the second amp...
thanks for the input, one last question i was looking at marshall and mesa cabs, from my understanding i need one which is 8 ohms so what i do is plug the dt50 to the 4 ohm port and plug the cab in the other 4 ohm jack is this correct?
also my mates marsh cab only has a 16 ohm input so doe sthat mean i have to disconnect the dt50 cab which is normally plugged into the 8ohm slot and just have the marshall cab connected tot he 16ohm input???
You could plug an 8 ohm cab and the internal 8 ohm into the 4 ohm jacks...The load would be 4 ohms...However, the internal speaker would be getting half of the power and the cab the other half...cone volume would not be balanced very well...but it would not hurt the amp...You might be better off jsut leaving the internal disconnected when you use a cab...just plug the 8 ohm cab into one of the 8 ohm jacks and leave the internal disconnected...
You could disconnect the internal and run your friend's 16 ohm off the 16 ohm jack...that will work too...
All of my amps are 112 combos...In tead of using a 412, I use a 212 cab loaded with 16 ohm speakers...I have also changed the speakers in my combos for 16 ohm speakers....Three 16 ohm speakers in parallel is a 5.3 ohm load...Close enough for the 4 ohm tap and the benefit is that all three speakers have the same cone volume....
i see, so what would be the best thing to do to get a stereo setup with the 112combo...... also if you could explain something in theory why would u get a dt 50 head wen you can get a 112combo for the same money and just use that as a head and be able to have the internal speaker as a bonus>
You can't do stereo with a single DT50...It's a mono amplifier...So there is really nothing you can do about that with one DT50 other than, get another DT50...
head vs combo? what do you prefer? A bonus internal speaker is nice to have...but some people like heads...I guess that is just a personal preference thing...The amplifiers are basically the same...The power amps put out the same power but the board design is different in that the combo tubes bottom load and the head tubes top load...I could not tell you if that makes a sonic difference or not...That might be pretty subjective...
