POD XT LIVE - Output level dips

Hi,
I've got a pod xt live, and have been quite happy with it. However, recently I've found that while I've been playing, there'll be a little click sound and the output level drops by around 10 to 12 dB.
The set-up I'm using is the following - Acoustic guitar into the pod, FX include piezo pre-amp, compression, and EQ, balanced jack lead out to the line input of a mono EMU D.I. box fed directly to the mixer, and from the mixer fed back to my stage monitor.
Tests so far - new batter in guitar, change of jack lead to D.I. change of desk channel.
All cables check out good, all balanced leads.
I then plugged my guitar direct into the D.I. box and the problem solved! So the issue must lay with the pod.
The problem is random. When I don't play for a few minutes the levels go back up, nice and loud, but after a minute or two of playing it'll dip down. I'm wondering if either there is a processing problem, or an issue with the output balancing transformers.
Any help appreciatied!!
are there any authorised service centers around east London UK?
Thank you
Hi timmytubby,
Sorry to hear about the volume issues with your XT Live.
I have had similar experiences, and in both instances it was the slow failure of the optical sensors on the volume pedal. Inside the XTL, underneath the pedal, there are two sensors that register the position of the pedal. If these fail, the volume can jump either way.
Usually these sensors are replaced in a repair situation. You may want to try to look inside your XTL, and see if the sensors need cleaning? Maybe give them a wiggle?
I hope this helps in some way.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I've taken the base plate off. I was surprised to see sensors as opposed to a standard pot! If were to buy new sensors, what are the part spec's? It wouldn't be difficult for me to replace them.
Thank you
Hi again,
I had to get the optical part specs at one time from Line 6, and they recommended me to a Canadian Supplier. If you are not in Canada, it is likely you will have to find or ask for a US parts supplier.
It is very fine soldering work, so make sure that you are capable before starting! Also, this may not be the source of your problem - it is a guess on my part. The one way to confirm the optical parts are going out of calibration is to go to one of your programs, and:
- Go into Edit Mode,
- Go through the edit pages until you get to the Wah page,
- Turn the Wah on via the pedal switch or manually with the the edit button,
- Rock your Wah/Volume pedal. If the display does not reach "0" at one end or "100" at the other, then your optical parts are out of calibration. The next step would be to re-calibrate the pedal. Go through the recalibration process, and see if that changed the Wah parameters back to normal. If they are corrected, and stay corrected, then you should have no further problems.
If they are corrected, but after a period of time become troublesome again (ie, your volume jumps or drops) it is likely an optical part failure. Please note, these are guesses on my part!
Hope this helps - please check the email message I sent you with a bit more info.
Hi ya,
I went through the process of checking the wah function. At first it went from 2% and 3% up to 100%, but after a little playing with it fell to 0 and then up to 100. So there apeared to be nothing wrong with that.
I couldn't find a calibration mode anywhere though. How do I get that up?
Hi again timmytubby,
Here's some information about calibrating your XT Live Volume pedal:
http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-4747
I noticed in one of your posts that you mentioned the wah position changed from 2%, then 3%, then 0. If indeed you were rocking the full range of the pedal (nothing was in its way) then the wah values should not change like that. The pedal should hold very precise measurements.
I hope the calibration procedure goes well and you have no more problems.

Just gave them a call. Very helpful. I've cleaned the sensors so I'll be testing it soon. I hope that's all that was needed. Got a direct line number to speak to their tech's if the clean hasn't worked.
Thank you to everyone who has read and replied! ![]()
Hi all,
I've cleaned the sensors, and it's not changed a thing! I've switched the Wah pedal on and seen the dial goes from 0% to 100% just fine.
Any other ideas??
Thanks
