X3Live Bender/Whammy Malfunction

I'm using the bender effect on the stomp for a digitech whammy effect ala' Rage Against The Machine.  It sounds fine but after a few seconds of moving the pedal it goes haywire and sounds all messed up.  if i change to a different patch and back to my whammy patch the same thing will happen after a few seconds.  my settings on the effect are Position 100, Heel 0, Toe 12, Mix 70.  I've heard some people have had to calibrate thier pedals.  I bought my X3live used so i dont know if that was ever done.  does it sound like this is the issue?  if so how do i calibrate the pedal?  if i use this patch wothout ever moving the pedal this issue never happens and have had no other issues the bender effect even when just used as a octave effect.

You may or may not be aware, but the expression pedal does not use a traditional potentiometer, but rather uses a system based on infra-red whereby there is s a sender, reflector mounted to the bottom of the expression pedal and a receiver.   Sometimes if you use your X3 Live in extremely bright sunlight or with bright stage lighting at floor level, infra red light can creep in from outside the unit and upset things as you describe.  Most people would hear the effects when the pedal is used for Volume control or Wah.

However, a ball of fluff from dog hair or similar may also get in the way of the indended infra-red beam if perhaps your unit came from someone who owns a dog or a cat - basically you may need to clean inside and around the underside of the reflector which is attached to the foot pedal
