POD HD 500 + iTunes through Skype?

Might seem like a silly question, but this relates also to recording.

Atm my POD is running though the USB to my MacBook Pro, and i'm hearing the sound through my headphones. When I record, I have the input/output as the POD. Records the guitar well, however the song I'm playing, it doesn't hear it? same thing for Skype, Input/Output is the POD, they can hear only the guitar, but not the music? I thought the music coming out will come in to the Mac along with the guitar thus allowing people (and camera) to hear me. Is it possible to hear the music as well as the guitar?

From the Mac's perspective, the HD500 is its soundcard. The guitar is the input, and the background music is being played as output through the HD500's headphone jack. So what Skype is sending is the signal from the input of the soundcard, not the output.

If you can have separate input and output devices on the Mac, you should be able to make something work. If you use the Mac's soundcard as the output, and route that through the HD500's aux input, the person you're skyping with should hear both the guitar and background music. You'd just have to use a dual tone on the HD500 with the one tone being essential empty and the other one for your guitar. Other than that, you'd have to get some other sound card that enable multiple inputs, as described in this thread: http://line6.com/support/message/354244#354244

  How woudl I route that into the POD? would I be able to use an jack to 1/4 inch into my mac to go into the aux intput? If so is it the line in or the headphone output of the mac?

    You'd have to get a cable to go from the headphone out of the Mac to the 1/4" aux input of the HD500 - something like this: http://www.zzounds.com/item--HOSCMP1 .
    
    The drawback with this is that you'd be losing stereo, but if the goal of your skype sessions is to simply share ideas, that might not be a big deal.

Sorry to keep go on with the questions, by output being the soundcard (default output right?) input is POD HD 500 which has a aux in by a 1/8 to 1/4 from the headphone jack on the mac tself, and a USB going into the mac.. I've set that into Audacity, and so far, I can only hear guitar, which is louder than usual for some reason despite hearing ok in headphones, and no music.

  Do you hear anything coming out of the Mac's headphone output if you plug headphones into it? If you do, then I suspect you don't have the aux input active on the HD500 itself. Luckily, with the latest firmware update you can set the input globally, but unfortunately, you'll have to edit you tones so that Path A and Path B are completely separate from one another. It's not a very elegant solution, unfortunately.

I don't hear anything except guitar.. I'm confused to be honest! Who would have thought It'd run deeper than simple plugging in.. Complete amateur at Dry/Wet recording

    At first the actual POD, through which I heard the guitar. Then I tried the Mac output for headphones, I've heard nothing.
