POD HD PRO/STUDIO MONITOR PROBLEM

This wasn't happening before, but today when I started up my POD HD Pro, the sound was coming out at the proper volume through one monitor and extremely quiet coming out of the other. The monitors are brand new, as is the POD, so I doubt there's
any serious problems; however, I have checked the connections and everything is in place. I was hoping the problem has something to do with the configuration, and I could fix this with a couple of clicks.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks
Have you checked the Mixer settings in the HD Pro? Path volume and panning could be the culprit.
In the main mix, both path A and path B are set at 0dB, path A is 100% to the left, path B is 100% to the right.
There are a few users of the HD Pro reporting some volume dropout issues with the latest firmware installed. See this post for examples ==> http://line6.com/support/message/353898#353898
One fix is to drop the firmware back down to version 1.31. This loses you a bit of functionality but is probably less frustrating thatn the alternative. The issue has been known about for a while so there may be a fix in the offing with version 2.0 ... due out this week. Or not !
Hm... So it might just be a waiting game then, unless I go back down to 1.31? How will I do that?
Also, if it helps, I went into the sound control panel in the Line 6 Audio/Midi devices and clicked the monitors (that I have set up as the default output) and tested it. The same notably low volume is coming out of the one speaker, but not the other. So it's not the panning or anything like that for sure.
An update: I have now rolled back to a previous firmware version (1.3, I believe) and it hasn't fixed anything. The sound coming out of the right monitor is still very weak and quiet.
If anybody has any further advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.
What do you hear through the HD Pro headphones jack?
EDIT: Another test: physically switch your monitor jacks between L/R channels.
Through the headphones jack, it sounds proper. After switching jacks, the sound is still quiet through the right speaker and normal through the left. I assume this means it's a monitor problem?
Since it sounds proper through the headphones jack, I think that means that the problem is either the L or R physical output jack on the Pod (whichever jack leads to the quiet monitor) or the monitor itself.
Your description of what happens when you switch jacks is ambiguous: is it the same physical speaker that is quiet when you switch jacks, or is it whichever speaker is connected to a specific HD output? If the former, it's your monitor that is the problem. If the latter, it is probably your HD device.
The other thing to test is the cables themselves, connecting your HD to the monitors. One of them could be faulty, while your HD and monitors are all fine.
Yes, it is the physical speaker that is quiet when I switch jacks; regardless of the cables I use or which jack the monitors are plugged into, it is the monitor that I have set up on the right side that is quiet. So, in conclusion, I suppose it is indeed the monitor that is the problem.
Thanks for your help! +1
I may have the same situation - are you using the XLR connection? If so, I think I've narrowed it down to being a problem with my monitor and NOT the HD500. Perhaps that's not the case though. It is an off & on problem that I can't seem to figure out completely. I'm using Mackie MR5's.
Nope, I just have 'em goin' into the 1/4" jacks. My monitors are brand spanking new, so I can't imagine them being the problem unless they're defective. I doubt it's the HD Pro hardware as well, again, being brand new and I've hardly used it yet. I've got Alesis M1 Actives.
It certainly is possible that you have a defective monitor. I had that problem when I first bought my monitors a couple of years ago, one was dead and had to be returned immediately and exchanged for working one.
I want to see if there are any other possible issues that I can fix, but I think you might be right. Frankly, neither of these monitors are sounding up to par like before, but one is louder than the other, and I've noticed that they both are creating a hissing sound, even without anything plugged into the HD Pro.
If anyone has any possible ideas for a fix, I'd appreciate it, and if not, I'm going to get these things replaced.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
