I can't mention some specifics in this public forum and I don't know if what i can't mention is at the heart of ths problem, but...
I was transferring a brand new 14 bank x 4 patches each bank brand new Set List worth of patches, most of which I created from scratch over the past few days with all the new features in revision 2.02.
The unit gave a file error message as if one or more of my patches were corrupted and were going to be replaced with "New Tone" blank patches.
After that happened, I unplugged the unit, re-plugged and it is stuck in a boot loop on the opening Line 6 screen. I tried the hold "left, even tried holding "right" when powering on the unit just to try anything, but nothing will get me out of this boot loop at the start up Line 6 screen. Since it will not stop recycling around and around showing nothing more than the Line 6 logo start-up screen, I cannot try any procedures I know how to perform. I had something like this happen with my Windows XP OS many moons ago, and that was a nightmare to resolve. I hope this will not be the same situation since these units do not use physical hard drives.
I've got a gig Thursday and I created these patches for this weekend's worth of gigs and all future shows. Now I've got nothing, and up the creek without a paddle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Neal
Hi MerlinFL, sorry to hear that you got "the Logo Loop of Death" (as someone else called it).
I can tell you that if you are trying to reboot your unit (by holding "left", "right" or even "down" arrow pad button while powering on the unit), do it while having the POD HD 500 unplugged from the computer, guitar and amp. You can try also holding the down arrow button. This would force the unit into Flash update mode, and you can reinstall the latest firmware release then with the aid of monkey (of course, plug again the unit to the usb port).
One thing that you should be aware. Sometimes, this loop behaviour is produced when you have a corrupted patch (as you said) which is produced when some kind of information is not transfered completely between the pod and the hd editor software (maybe when doing some change in a patch, and the connection was lost somehow). When the POD boots it starts up with the last patch you were using, so if that patch was the source of the problem, then the pod would keep booting. So once you reinstall the firmware, you have to choose "no" when it asks if you want to keep your patches. And then, if you want to transfer again the patches, make sure first what is the source of the loop.
I hope It can help you. Best Regards,
Daf
Thanks Daf - I've done the button thing with nothing plugged in and still stuck.
I understand what you mean about the past patch. I'm not sure what the last patch might have been as I was not transferring one patch at a time, but loading a set list bank after saving my previous one.
If I have to buy a new unit to cover my gigs, then that's what I'll do if no solution is found very quickly.
Thanks again for your help.

MerlinFL, but I am afraid that if the patches you are trying to trasfer were the source of the problem, then the new pod you will buy would get the same problem. Does you have also a copy of the single patches one by one (not as a group, i. e. as a user list)? I always make a copy of every single patch, and of the entire setlist, and of the entire bundle. It would be very helpful if you can find the source of the problem.
By holding down the "down" arrow button while powering on the unit, you could then plug the pod to the computer again and you would be able to reinstall the latest firmware (Monkey should be able to recognize your unit). But if it does not do anything, then I am afraid I cannot tell you anything else for the moment.
Best Regards, and good luck.
Daf.
PD: you probably already know this, but now you can open a support ticket directly in your user account, no need to mark a thread as a question anymore.
I have been thinking more about the problem you have, and if your pod and the drivers and the editor software is supposed to be updated, then I would not expect to have the problem you have, no matter if you had a corrupted patch, because as a result of the 1.43 flash memory update, there is a dedicated sync process where the corrupted information is erased. So I think better that what probably happened to you is that in the process, the POD-Computer connection was just interrupted somehow. Having said that, I would expect that if you repeat the operation with another pod and if the connection is never interrupted, then the new pod would not get into the same problem, no matter if you had corrputed patches; Anyway, the corrupted patches (if existed) would be replaced by empty ones.
Please, keep us informed
Best Regards,
Daf
Hi Daf - thanks for your suggestions, but holding down left or right doesn't stop this looping problem. And if I do get a new unit, I'll put in my my patches except these new batch until I know what happened.
And I saw your newer post that will come after this one in my email inbox. I have one potentially big problem, but I'm not at liberty to discuss it publicly. I'm hoping someone from Line 6 will respond to my trouble ticket or just jump onto my two threads I've created to discuss this problem, but so far - nothing except from those I've helped with their tuning problems so far.
Thanks for your concern, but this is one for the books and not a simple fix based on what it is doing and not doing to get out of this looping situation.
I'll just have to wait and see who comes to try to help me out besides you and another from a different forum.
Neal
Please read this, I know what is wrong....
I have the same problem with file saves and a ticket they have not responded. Not sure they have a clue concerning the cause. I worked by myself to try and solve it.
There is a "Bundle" and a "Preset" save error problem. If you save the file into the proper bundle or preset folder all seems to be fine BUT when you try and reload the file "data corruption error" and all presets lost and changed to "new tone". Your data is NOT lost!! Please read the following on how to get around the bug.
Been there and done that, still no reponse from Line 6, I can only assume it is a major software flaw someone would like to ignore or perhaps hope the teenagers will never use the feature to find it does not work.
UPSIDE;
Your files are still intact, do not delete them! IT IS NOT THE POD it is a software problem!!! A new unit will not fix it.
Go find the file outside the editor software and open it, the editor will come up with the presets you saved, you can resend them back into the unit. DO NOT open the editor first and try and load up the 'bundle" or "preset" file IT WILL NOT WORK!
Open the file by locating the POD folder where they are stored, something like C:user/-name-/documents/line6/hdpod/
A.) To keep the POD from sending all its bad content into the editor, open the editor first before you plug in the USB. It will ask you to bring in the POD data, say NO.
B.) Select the preset file you opened by itself and resend it back into the POD.
C.) File save for presets suffers no problems, be sure and save each preset as you design it into the basic POD directory folder. Whenever I edit a preset I "send" it back into the POD memory.
D.) Make sure you have all your presets saved in the basic folder to resend them back into the POD as each software update will replace everything back to factory.
E.) The Bundle and Preset files are still intact just find them and open them without using the main editor software page. A new editor window will open containing your data.
Thanks for taking the time to try to help me with my situation. I've just got it all back working and I guess I'll have another HD500 unit as a back-up, or I could return it since it will arrive here by Thursday in time for my first show of my long weekend from Thursday night thru Sunday night.
I did things different than you described, but I'm surprised that you submitted a Trouble Ticket and no one responded? I submitted mine when I first wrote this problem here. I've not heard anything back yet, but it has only been a couple of days.
I've seen a few people who did what I did and were fortunate enough not to have any problems or glitches. I have in addition to my HD500 a POD HD PRO unit in my "big rack" that I use for bigger shows when I need "every" sound I can produce with all the gear I have for guitar, bass (not Line 6 generated), and synths (GR-55) as well as my vocal processing gear (TC Helicon VoiceLive and VoiceTone pedals).
I thank you again for sharing your experience with me and my problem. It's very strange that you have to do all that work-around stuff to get your Edit program to work the way it should.
Best of luck and take care,
Neal
No doubt. I see the problem as something with the editor software not the main POD unit. Several update versions and factory reloads did not help.
Something is wrong with the save feature within the editor. Saving Presets offers no problems for me, they save and open with no issues, I can send and receive back and forth to the unit with no issues. BUT, call up a Batch or a Setlist file from within the normal editor while you are working and presto, data corruption error, every time. Does it on anything I save or anything I bring in from someone else.
I doscovered by fluke that if I dound the file in the folder where it was saved (create a desktop shortcut to get there easier), Make sure Editor is not open already Open the file by basic "open" command and the entire Editor window opens up WITH the saved file intact. One needs to make sure the POD USB is not plugged in or it wants to upload the presets from the POD, normally this is all fine and good and what you often want, BUT in the case of recalling a SAVED or GUEST preset file you need to have the editor on first and then plug in the POD USB. When it asks to upload, day no to keep the contents of your SAVED file. You can then send that back to the POD to recover presets you saved or samples from external origins.
Since the main function of the POD is basically OK, I can create, save, recieve, send presets, even entire sends of a SETLIST IF teh POD editor has it on screen.
So the problem seems to be within the editor software. I cannot see how a new POD unit will fix the issue as nothing is going on with it.
LIne 6 is slow to the punch and I worry about their level of concern and marketing to the inexperienced players who fall for the "sounds like" myth. Being a player of over 35 years with more gear at my feet than I can remember. They better get on the stick if they want to hold, build, and sustain a name with any serious musician.
I realize they get bombarded by the stupid 24/7 w ridiculous complaints, issues and absurd wants, but this is a basic flaw in the editor and I cannot seriously believe everyone's unit is working fine but just ours!
Do feedback on your response (good luck) or the new unit. I want to see where this goes. I think they need a new editor version fix.
I will try reloading my editor software again but I have little little hope for that fixing anything.
We are not all idiot guitar players LINE 6, you need to be listening to the right people as we are the ones writting intelligent reviews and comments on your products. One more stupid flaw like this one and I will go back to my much easier to deal with Tube Stack and pedalboard.
I've tried to recreate the problems you are always having with Bundles and Set Lists. I'm sorry to say that I'm not having any trouble with Editor running, opening any bundle or Set list. I only had that one major error problem which I've since gotten rid of and all is working as it should once again.
What comes to my mind about your situation, is you've proven that in your situation you feel the issue is within Edit. Perhaps it's something within your computer, the OS, and registry glitch, perhaps even an interrupt allocation error that is causing this one aspect of the program to fail every time?
Have you tried using another computer? Have to no doubts whatsoever that none of your patches, Bundles, or Set Lists could possibly have an infection of some sort? I'd ask for a copy of your bundles & set lists to test on my computer, but I'm afraid if it is something within the programming of those files, it would affect my computer and then I'd be in the same situation.
Perhaps you can try this on another computer, or try creating completely new bundles with no current patches you've been using in them. Then try saving and loading? I've not read anything about you trying this approach. Perhaps if you do this it will either confirm my suspicion, or rule it out.
Just some food for thought - if not already thought of,
Neal
Gents, it is possibly fair to say that not everyone will experience this problem. I personally used the editor a lot and most certainly used the save function to create backups of the set lists, however, I have never yet had to recall one from file and my guess is that not many folks would need to, routinely.
Pleased you managed to fix the problems you have had.
I am not even going to bother posting issues I have had with the new updates regarding using the tone control knob on the JTV as a controller for instance, to increase delay mix. I've got a lil too tired with the HD500 and gone to floor stomps and use the JTV manually. When the kit works reliably then I may start using it again. So continues my love hate relationship with L6.
Song remains the same.
Bundle and Setlist files will not reopen within the editor window. Presets have no issues.
If you open the file outside the editor it comes up and data is intact. Within the editor "data corruption error' my files or anyone elses Bundle or Setlist the same.
Redoing everything did nothing.
I assure Line 6 I am not a dufus teenager who does not understand PC file basics or the editor function of the POD system.
Something is wrong.
Some one please save some BUNDLE and SETLIST files and recall them in your editor window to see of they come up.
If I go find the saved files and open them outside the editor window, a new editor opens and the files have their data. Does the same on my files redoing all the POD and editor version redo's or anyone else's Bundle or Setlist file.
Unfortunately, I dont have a solution to your problem, but I experienced it a few days ago and made it out ....though there were a few after-effects so to speak....
I created a topic here http://line6.com/support/thread/85066?tstart=0 to explain what happened to my HD and happened upon your post just after that.
I'm glad (if I may say so) to see I'm not the only one experiencing this sort of thing and hope Line6 will solve the problem speedily.
I'm in the same boat, as of today. My software editor crashed on my Mac, and I didn't catch what error flashed on my HD500, but it went into the loop of death. I have been reading on how to address it when I get home from work. Chalk up another one in the column of "Using the system as it's designed - FAIL."
not going to solve the problem, but whatever,... been 2 weeks already since you posted your question and marked it as such ....and no one from Line6's even posted anything to try and help you....speaks volume about the relevance of this board and its staff.
Not responding hurts them more than they can register. Not only for problems, which may or may not be external POD related, which they always seem to presume it must be your end (reminds me of dealing with Fulltone). Some of the more experienced POD users have offered consistant lists of recommended fixes and upgrades and if they ignore that then they will be left to the newbie player who gets the unit for a plug and play preset which they will be disappointed and comment on a bad review. One would think they might appreciate experienced players trying to see just what the POD can do to its full potential. We need a few things modified which are minor for the most part, like for God's sake change the Pitch Glide controller settings to intervals instead of percent, you cannot set an accurate 4th or 5th interval on the pedal. What is someone supposed to do play out of tune???
I had the same issue w the toneprint TC pedals, we ask and ask for a public release of the edit software to customize the pedal for the more pro user. All we kept getting was so and so's preset for something. That might marvel a new player thinking he is going to sound like some one but useless for more experienced and pro players. Needless to say I dropped the TC pedals I just got frustrated there is so much in there to adjust and no way to get at it.
The HD POD series has a lot of potential and there is a lot in there for the more advanced user, time will tell if they want to remain more newbie class or give the more experienced musician better tools. they seem to market the effect as a plug and play download a preset to sound like someone or a song and that is just problematic knowing everyone's guitar and rig is different much less their hands.
For one thing concerning models:how about something like a Klon Centaur model OD or a ISP or Boss noise reduction model instead of a gate?
I have little use for low end pedal mods that were not that great to start with. I have learned to adjust some of the OD and gain models w some post EQ but that tales up another effect block just to get the buzz out of the gains. Also the loop is just not right, pedals in there do not sound the same and i have tried adjusting and EQ;ing it quite a bit (anyone hot any ideas) for now I just gave up on it. I use a few pedals up front which have worked out well.
Amp models are all great but how about a Diezel? Triple Rec? Not a big deal on the super old tech early guitar amp stuff. Dr Z is cool.Fender's are cool but I think the Bassman gain structure is not so much like the amp.
any new development? did it you find a way to make it out? ![]()
Does anyone know if they even read or take into account the tweak and fixes we put forth to fix the unit, or are we wasting our time?
I complained to LINE 6 that not saying anything in regard to issues or improvement suggestions is not going well for them. They never mention, "hey we are working on this or plan to do this or add that on the next update". If I wait 6mos in a blind vaccum hoping they fix some minor things and come to find out they were never planning to do so. That will end my use of Line 6 equipment and the end of decent reviews regarding them. If they wish to appeal and market to teenage level players then they will never be taken seriously by advanced players. Does not matter of the unit has so much more capability than the average dufus understands is in there, those of use who need it and use it will be the ones to defend the unit to purists who hate modeling.
I need that bloody Pitch Glide controller editor param to be intervals not percentage and if that does not happen or at least I get a comment that it is being worked on, that new Whammy pedal is looking better all the time. My Wampler compressor and others have already nulled many of the internal effect models. Now it is down to some of the modulations, delays and reverbs holding my attention. Line 6 needs to tell us what is going on and what is planned. The acute lack of respect and caring is what loses long term customers, you know the ones of us that have played for decades who buy large amounts of gear. Most of the purists on the web sites hate Line 6 model attempts. I get the best out of them and quite like the amp models but I need my effects and good ones. Something is not right with the effects loop as well, just not transparent to what you run into it. It needs to be improved as well.
If they do not wish or do not plan to fix various things or plan some new amp models, would it kill them to mention something???? Really bad PR and customer apeasement.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
