HD 500 Noisy into front of amp

I'm trying to use my HD 500 as an effects-only unit into the front of my Mini Rectifier, but I'm getting a lot of noise, even with everything bypassed. Is there any way to eliminate the horrible amount of hum that is genereated? I've tried different instrument cables, lowering the master volume, flipping the pad/normal and direct/amp switches, but nothing has helped.
My signal path is Guitar to Guitar In 1/4" Out (left or right) to Input on the Mini Rec.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks, but that didn't fix it either. I noticed that no matter what I did with the master volume knob on the HD, the hum did not change at all. It turned out to be what I believe to be a ground loop issue. I had the HD and the AMP both plugged into the same wall outlet. Different sockets, but the same outlet. I moved the HD to a socket on the other side of the room (I had to use a longer guitar cable because of the rediculously short power cable) and the hum was gone.
Any tricks for eliminating ground loop hum when plugged into the same wall outlet?
