I just bought the JTV59, updated to firmware 1.82. I am trying to set up a guitar with a particular tunnig (Baritone nashville) with workbench, I managed to get the guitar model into the Custom 1 slot but the custom tuning could not be synced. I received an error message every time I tried to sync:
An exception was caught.

Since there is no manual for workbench and I have looked at all those workbench alternate tuning problems, I am still at a lost how to proceed and have to write to get help from Line6.
Thanks.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Sync" when talking about creating and saving an alternate tuning in to a slot on your JTV. Can you please explain what you mean without the technical error message?
Neal
I am sorry for the confusion. I hooked up the variax with the computer via the provided USB hub. The Workbench detected the guitar and I could load the models from the guitar to the workbench. After I edited two of the models in the Custom 1 folder (created a couple guitar model with different alternate tunings), the yellow exclaimation signs appeared next to the newly created models and the sync button at the bottom. I pressed the 'Sync" button, a window popped up asking me if I wanted to write the two modified models to the variax, I clicked yes and the error message appeared.
I tried to work around this problem by backing up all the models on the computer, then I edited two of the models in the Custom 1 folder and saved them in the backup. After that I loaded all the backup models to the Variax, without the error message this time. However, the guitar models I edited were transferred to the variax but the alternate tunings were not.
I did not have any line 6 programs in my computer prior to the above process. I installed the latest version of Monkey and updated the variax's firmware, then I installed the latest version of Workbench before hooking it up with the guitar.
I hope I have explained it more clearly and I thank anyone for any help. I really would like to be able to create a customised model with its own alternate tuning.
Thank you,
Karissa
That PC error got something to do with your Java Console... I would suggest UPDATING your Java. Now... be careful, if you are using Windows 64-bits, you may have to get the 64-version of the Java Console, which... is NEVER auto-detected (mostly cos our browsers are in 32-bits), try this link:
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=63692
Not sure, but it could help.
Thank you for the suggestion. I think I have the latest Java in my computer (Java SE6, both 32-bit and 64-bit, version 1.6.0_31-b04-415) as there is no more update for it at the moment. Thanks for the link too but I am using a Mac with OS X10.7.4.
Hello,
Are you still able to use all of the other features of the Workbench software? Can you still upload other alternate tunings to custom guitar models in the Custom bank?
Have you tried completely uninstalling, then, re-installing the Workbench software and drivers on that computer? Please make sure to test the interface on all of the computer's USB ports and remove all other unnecessary USB devices from the computer while troubleshooting this problem.
Also, can you please give us the details on the guitar model and tuning so that we can try to reproduce the problem here?
