Need some help with a hum

I got me a distortion setup that I really like, problem is that if I do a heavy palm mute to let it kind of carry on, there's some noise in the background.  I'm not sure how to get rid of that.  I'm using a hard gate and a studio EQ, but wasn't sure if I can use those and throw on a noise gate and if so, where?

I'm not sure if this is gonna help you as I know what your talking about. Use the hardgate first in chain and try to adjust the "open" knob. Then adjust the "close" knob. Play with these adjustments till you get the hang of it. You could also try to set-up 1 hardgate then add another after and see how that works. Or you may have to adjust your other effects to clean it up a bit. Like trying to lower the outputs a bit.
