Spider IV EDIT Annoyance - AMP Selection changes effects

I have found something very annoyinig while using Spider IV Edit:
After I set up a preset with an amp and the effects I want to use, I would like to be able to change the selected amp to a different model, but the instant you do this, all the effects settings change as well. I want to change amplifier models to see how they sound through the effect and stomp chain I have set up. But I can't do this; you end up having to reset all the stomps and effects again. That could take hours and hours to do.
Why does the Line 6 gear do this???![]()
Or am I missing something?
Changing the amp model automatically changes the other settings to those of that amp model - the model includes things like Gain, EQ, etc, so if those didn't change, you wouldn't be changing to that amp model!
Here's a snip from the Spider FAQs on the product pages:
OK. Spider Edit is the software you use on your computer to make tones, then load them into the amp through your FBV controller.
So maybe you mean you are in Edit Mode in your amp, using the small LCD screen?
Either way, you're not in manual mode when you do this.
Correct, I was not in Manual mode.
I can see that the amp's settings would change as you change amp models, but the effects and stomps shouldn't in my opinion.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. So if I edit a tone in manual mode, I can change amp models and it won't change everything else?
OK, I'll try it and report back.
Cheers.
OK, thanks guys. In manual mode I can change amps and the effects remain unchanged. Too bad as soon as you hit "manual" though, the amp's settings change from your copied preset. No big deal, I just write down the settings then redo them. The funny thing is, from this point forward, the amp settings remain unchanged as you go from model to model.![]()
That's the way it works! ![]()
Indeed.
Does anyone know if there is a way to edit "manual mode" from within Spider IV Edit? In other words, without having to push the manual button on the amp.
Again, do you mean Spider Edit (software on your computer) or the edit mode on your amp?
If you want to use a Manual Mode sound, then add FX (or not), you can select it, then save it to a User Preset location, then access it through the Edit Mode.
This is how I have set up my patches for use when playing with my Beatles tribute band. I first used manual mode to come up with a good Clean setting for use with acoustic guitar, then saved this to a User location. Then I selected the Class A Red manual mode, adjusted tone as needed, and saved this as my usual rhythm guitar Vox sound. I then edited this sound further adding more gain and volume for lead guitar parts, and another patch with more electric trebley sound for other rhythm parts.
The software is called "Spider IV Edit" so naturally I meant from within the software.
Is there any way to enter "manual" mode from within the software without having to push the "manual" button on the amp?
No, you have to understand that Spider Edit is not accessing the amp, except when you move patches from the amp to Spider Edit , or from Spider Edit to the User Preset locations in the amp.
So, if you want to access Manual Mode souunds, save them to User Preset locations, then move them over to SPider Edit (and save them there), then you can manupilate/change them, save them under new names, and move them into the amp.
Spider IV Edit (SE) DOES indeed access the amp other than when using "send" or "receive". When you double-click a preset from within SE, the amp changes to that preset. As you enable and disable effects in a preset from within SE, the amp responds accordingly. When you change parameters, the amp responds accordingly. So yes, the amp does respond in real time to changes made in SE.
As such, Line 6 could have placed a "manual" button within SE that would do the same thing as selecting the button on the amp.
As far as creating presets the way you desribed, I prefer my own:
1) Copy a preset within SE that you like to start with and paste it to a new location.
2) Double-click the new preset so the amp has loaded it.
3) Press the "manual" button on the amp so you can now properly edit the new preset.
4) Make your adjustments to amp/fx models etc., then rename the preset.
5) Send the preset to the amp.
btw, one other annoyance when using SE, is the FV floorboard stops working.
I didn't know about the 'double click' method, thanks!
