Problem with JTV-59 and POD HD500 using VDI Cable

I've searched the forum for similar problems, and not found an answer. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

I have a new JTV-59 (Korean) and new POD HD500. Both have latest firmware via L6 Monkey.

I've encountered a problem using VDI connector on electric models (T, Spank, Lester, etc.). When I start using POD at powerup, it works fine. Models come through just fine. (Mostly I am using stock AC-30TB preset). But after switching back and forth between a preset or two, suddenly the output from the VDI becomes intermittent. Silence, silence, then MAX model voulme for .5 seconds, then silence, silence. Switching to an acoustic model is fine. Using 1/4" connector, all models come through just fine and remain stable.

I thought it was some setting I fiddled with, so I rflashed both Variax and POD . . . same behavior.

I've tried different VDI cables too. Same behavior.

I would like to use VDI cable, as that way I can have a couple of presets that include capo tunings without having to fiddle with alternate tunings on guitar. But I fear I may not be able to do this.

Thoughts? Am I being clear?

Thanks in advance.
