cab disconnected in standby

Hi there,

 

I just started using DT50 head + cab amp and I noticed the usual the warning that recommends not to disconnect the cab from the head and to put the amp in standby to silent it.

 

My question: may I keep the cab disconnected when the amp is in standby, or is it not advisable anyway?

 

This feature would be useful because I could leave the cab at the recording facility and use direct out +mixer + headphones when playing at home.

    I think with firmware version 2 this is possible.  before v2 firmware on the DT50, you only got sound from the direct output when the amp was fully on, which meant you had to have a cab connected.  The DT25 didn't used to be like that, and so the DT25 feature has been ported over to the DT50 fo rrunning out of the direct output when in standby with no cab is possible.

     

    As I understand it, usually most tube amps only warm the tubes up when in standby.  that's the whole point of standby.  So the higer voltage that runs the tubes fully isn't applied until the standby switch is moved to the on position.

     

    The down side of this is that if you accidentally flip it to on with no cab, you could blow your amp.  But if you're careful not to do that I think you should be fine.
