Help with Spider Jam, FBV Shortboard and EX1 pedal set up.

I have a spider jam amp and a FBV Shortboard MKII, I recently bought a EX1 expression pedal.   What ever the expression pedal on the FBV Short board is set to (volume or wah) is mimicked by the EX1.  What am I doing wrong my understanding was if I pluged in the EX1 it would be the volume pedal and the FBV expression pedal could be set to wah.
