Variax 600 tremolo set screw

Recommended Posts

I know this has been answered before, but I can't find it.  What size is the set screw used to hold the whammy bar in place?

On a similar topic...  I bought a PRS Custom 24 with tremolo last year.  I don't know if it's a standard feature, but where the whammy bar pushes into place, it appears the previous owner had taken some heat shrink tubing and placed it in the hole.  Now when you push the whammy in, it stays in place.  Has anyone done this?   What size did you use?

Definitely an M3. Mine juts out a bit, so if you don't want it sticking out then get a really short M3 setscrew.

Thank you.  Is this a standard size I can find in a hardware store?  Metric?   I'm an idiot with sizes and such.   What I'd love to find is something similar to fine tuners on the Washburn Wonderbar; the screw with a knob or the like.    If I could figure out the size of heat shrink tubing I'd need, I would go that route.  Thanx for the info.

Metric. I couldn't find smaller than an M4 so I ordered mine online.

  • 2 weeks later...

I found some at a local hardware store.  They have a head like a flat head screw, so I guess that will work.   I got numerous sizes, just didn't have time to try them yet.

On a similar note, anyone know the diameter of the whammy bar?  The more I play my PRS Custom 24 that uses heat shrink tubing to hold the arm in, the more I want to go for that method with my Variax.

Thanx!
