Can JTV battery box be transplanted into a Variax 500?

Can I just plug a 9 volt battery in place of the AAbrick?

You have to use a top quality 9V - cheapies don't last very long at all, in fact some don't even get it to go at all.....

I use AA rechargables, which I believe only put out around 1.2v each, so all up there's 7.2v output, but they work well, and last well too.

In theory, I would've thought the JTV battery would work, so I don't understand why they won't - maybe it's a conspiracy?

2S (2qty cells wired in series) JTV battery pack discharge voltage curve is in the neighborhood of 8.4V-6V.

Legacy 500 6qty Akaline sled can begin around 9.9V and in my testing and experience with Vax 500 reaches LVC (low voltage cutoff) somewhere around 7V.

While it’s possible to operate 500 on 2S 18650 lithium ion/poly battery pack it will likely cut-off somewhere short of the full available capacity of 2S lithium ion/poly pack.

But as long as proper VDC polarity's observed there's not much risk of harm running legacy Variax on 2S lithium pack.  It's just that it probably won't be able to use all the capacity of the 2S lithium pack.

Do not use rechargeables in an older Variax. Certain IC's of that era don't respond or work well in a low battery volt situation,

and can become damaged. It is not meant to be used that way. If the processor board gets damaged, it might not be repairable.

And I don't know if there are anymore replacement boards available, should you damage the board.

Don't go there.

Page-3 of the user's manual specifies Alkaline batteries. Don't deviate from that.

Line 6 does not support modifications to its products, and doesn't not endorse self repair on its product.
