Low input levels on UX1/Pod farm

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just recently bought a UX1 interface, which came with pod farm software. I'm fairly new to playing guitar on a computer, kinda used to just plugging into an amp and jamming. Anyway, I got everything installed, ran the "monkey" to ensure that all of my drivers, software were up to date, and I have barely any input when playing. If I just wail on the guitar, I'm lucky to hit -30 db. It sounds terrible as well. I feel like the only reason I'm getting any sort of distortion is because of my output levels on my amps and record sends are so high. I've watched a few videos on youtube on different setups and everytime I copy what they do.... it doesn't sound remotely like it. Just basically a clean guitar. Their input meters on the top left of pod farm look like they are actually running at a reasonable level as well. Any help here?

Can you explain this a bit differently? I am not sure if its that you cannot hear your guitar through the amp/monitors/headphones or that Pod Farm isn't picking up your Preamp and granting "the crunch".

How are you monitoring sound? What version of Pod Farm?

PC/Mac?

It's a Ltd 400 series with emg active pickups. I changed the battery and tried another guitar as well with same results.

It seems like pod farm isn't picking up the preamp signal. The only way to get any distortion is to do it digitally by cranking everything. This does not work.

The sound monitoring isn't ideal but I have headphones plugged into the laptop (Windows 7) and tick the "listen to device" setting on the recording control panel. My laptop is slightly outdated but I would still think this should work.

Yep you should be cranking away hmmm... and this is on all patches? and that volume knob on the GX is cranked open? Are you using PF 1 or 2?

and you tried another guitar cable too?

I think its probably a setting issue with PF - I know that the input levels can show they are low but PF can still crank out the volume. Though its been a few since I sat down with PF. Open up the mixer view and see if you can boost your output there I think there is a 18db boost button.

There are some pretty good PF dudes here who will probably pop by.

The volume knob is up all the way, actually it doesn't change regardless of where it's set.

It is pod farm 2.57 I believe, my "monkey" says everything is up to date.

The guitar cable is brand new... I guess that could be it but because it's a monster cable I'd hope not. I tried the +18 db boost and it just makes the crappy sound I have louder. The input line on the mixer has no effect on the volume. It seems like the more I think about it maybe it's the unit itself?

Does the green light go on for the UX1? if so its connected as it should be. Try going into windoze control panel (I'm still running XP but it should be similar) make sure in the sound devices that the UX1 is the ins/out.

IF Pod Farm 2 is authorized for the UX1 then it should be good. Should work with PF1 and Gearbox too IIRC.

Try a different usb cable and if thats a no go - try another usb port. The L6 stuff gets picky on ports.

BTW (and you will love this) try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and there are 32/64 bit versions.

Tough to say if its the unit over a forum - sorry about that.
