Amplifi vs. HD

Maybe this has been debated or asked already...the few reviews I have seen on the new Amplifi totally talk about the features, but nothing is said about the quality of the modeling.  Are the amps and cabs modeled with different/better technology than the HD series or is it the same tech. just packaged into a mobile interface?

Hey RL I like to look at the X3 as a MFX not necessarily as a deep modeler per se. Can I get a good metal sound? blues? or cop a tone like a artist I like, yep. Still sound real good. Drawback -> seems to be the longevity of Gearbox for editing in relation to OS(s) moving forward with limited backwards compatibility.

The HD is indeed the next level, to me at least, in realistic modeling as opposed to a really sweet MFX.

So for some things like a quick down and dirty edit session for a good tone the XT/X3 can do it which I like it for. If its something that requires more depth and I want to invest more time in -> the HD hands down.

I hope that made sense somewhat.

From a different thread on a different forum:

  • AMPLIFi is a line of products for practicing, jamming, and fun. Therefore, they need to be affordable—HD's DSP and MCU are far too expensive for a $200 box that's meant to blend into your home stereo
  • An HD500 preset has a lot of parameters. Switching presets would be extremely sluggish via the iOS/Android app, and syncing a hundred HD500 presets over Bluetooth would take a painfully long time
  • HD amp models have deeper parameters that assume a working knowledge of how real amps behave and react. We don't want AMPLIFi users tweaking, we want them playing
  • To provide tonematching for potentially every commercial song ever recorded, we needed our widest variety of models. That's POD Farm 2.5 and the tens of thousands of CustomTone presets that already exist
  • If you want to use AMPLIFi on stage or in the studio, we won't stop you. But that's not what we designed it for. We designed it to be used where you spend the most time—your living room, your dorm room, your office, your tour bus. HD users often hide their gear off in practice spaces and studios, where it's forgotten when life gets busy

This is by far the best explanation I have heard for the intended use of the AMPLIFi line, well said!
