Into Head's Fx Loop, Direct/studio Output Sounds Better?

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this for me. I'm currently running my POD HD500 straight into my Marshall TSL 100's FX loop. What I can't seem to make sense of is that the studio/direct ouput mode seems to sound significantly better than the Stack Power Amp mode. Studio direct just seems much smoother, full bodied, and just altogether cleaner. Switching over to stack power amp output is like cranking the treble all the way up and produces a dirty, metallic sort of tone. Any ideas?

This is because the POD adjusts the output settings based off to what you say you're connecting.  In other words, when you run the front of your amp and you set your POD accordingly, it takes some lows out and drops the volume.  It actually tells you how it is correcting your sound right next to the selection you make.  The studio direct is actually what you're supposed to use when running into an effects loops, believe it or not.  On a side note, while running into your FX loop, make sure that you switch the POD from "amp" to "line."  This can be done if you look at the output volume knob on the rear panel of the POD.  Hope this helps!
