For those that want Locking tuners on their JTV59

Recommended Posts

Hi

I was having problems changing strings on my JTV59 not through anything difficult but the fact I needed three hands to keep the tension on the ball end of the string in the bridge while I was tightening up the tuner inevitably something would let go but maybe that's just me being used to LP and strats the last fifty years. Anyway thought it would be great to put a set of locking tuners on the JTV that way I could hold the ball end at one end pull the string taught at the tuner end and nip it the capstan at the same time so I ordered locking tuners from these folk:-

the tuners fit in where the stock ones come out there was no filling and drilling or widening of head stock capstan holes all you need is a small Philips screwdriver preferably magnetized  and a 10mm socket that's, it job done took me 30 minutes and now takes me about 20 seconds to change a string.

Great spot, and best of all it's a UK supplier :-)

Think I'll be getting a couple of sets of these - one for my JTV59 and one for my PRS.  I love the locking tuners on my EBMM JP6 and these look pretty similar.  It's a shame I can't get a replacement JTV bridge in gold, otherwise I'd go the the gold tuners.  Would look killer with the tobacco JTV!

Bob

My new tuners arrived today and just as you said, they were a breeze to fit and work like a treat.  Guitar is sounding great with a new set of EXL110's and the new tuners.  Thanks again for the tip!  I'll be getting another set for my PRS now

Cheers

Thanks for the heads-up on these BigBob. Have now installed them on my JTV-59 and they're very good.

Also thought I'd try their cheapo strings, not something I usually do, generally D'Addario or Elixir for me, but reports were good.

They are packaged very similar to Ernie Ball's and so far have been fine, no adverse reaction on the '59

At £2.75 a pop I'm impressed. Brand - "HiWires"

Regards All

Steve

Has anyone tried these ones? I'm satisfied with the tuners on the 59, but wouldn't mind an upgrade so I have locking tuners on all my guitars. A little wary of the quality and longevity of them.

For those in the USA - GFS sells Gotoh style Locking tuners under their house brand here

these are actually from the same Asian supplier that Line 6 uses and bolt right on -

I just installed the Schaller 10060223's and they went right in, no mods at all. The GFS went right in as well, but it took me about 3 machines to realize I had a 6 inline set!!! It's a good thing I had the Schallers.

Hi  stevesilk1951 pleased to be of service sir I have always found axtec helpful I ordered a set of their Tesla Shark ( a play on the name slash) humbuckers for my Les Paul and soldered them up 50's wiring Jimmy Page style on the guys suggestion and found them excellent not that I play any Led Zep or Slash just like the tone.

I will give their strings a blast next time I order thanks for the info. If the numerals are correct for DOB on your profile I am about 1 year older and definitely deeper in debt after getting this dream rig milarky  LOL still nice to see some of us older folk embracing technology.

Still considering these ( the Schallers ).  Amazon has what looks like the same thing as the Schaller 10060223 but that number isn't there so not sure.

Some reviewers on Amazon confirmed their item has the same Schaller model number.  I'll probably order these for my jtv59.  Any tuning instability though seems to come more from inadequate string stretching and something going on at the bridge saddles.  On the G string especially, after bending I get a "plink" their when I tune the string. Tried nut sauce on the saddle which works for a few days.
