ogandou
Hello, I just bought a Republic resonator guitar. It's acoustic only. I'm trying to record it using my Pod X3 and a (admittedly pretty cheap ;) ) microphone. Can someone suggest a good amp or preamp to use? And which settings they use? Right now I'm using the American classic with some compression. Frankly I'm having trouble getting acceptable levels, the signal tends to be pretty weak. I'm just not used to recording acoustic instruments at all... so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
brue58ski
The American Classic mic preamp is an excellent. I use it with my Variax and it makes all the difference. So I'm surprised it doesn't work well for you. There is a tiny knob called "Trim" which adjusts the mic's level. Have you adjusted that? And just some quick very basic mic technique...point mic at bridge for a more bassy sound, point it at about where the neck and body joint are for a more trebley sound (is that like dubly?) Pointing a mic right at the soundhole is generally not a good thing.
ogandou
Yup, found the trim knob, that did the trick, thanks! Thanks for the mic positionning tips, I'll try that today.
