NEW HD Pro X, volume drop, host of other issues

I have a literally new (month old) POD HD X Pro and the matching FBV.  At a couple of gigs, I noticed the tone was 'thin' (like a bad cable on an old tube amp) and the volume master had to be high - I wrote it off as the room until last night.  Went on break and came back and the amp was SCREAMING loud and sounded thick again, reduced the master volume significantly (half of what it was) and continued.  Mid song I switched patches (all patches have the volume levels exactly the same) and poof, volume was gone.  Had to increase master volume again.  Shortly afterwards a host of interesting new things happened, such as the modulation/delay/etc buttons not working (channel switch, wah worked).  Rebooting system did no good.  Disconnect/reconnect FBV, no change. New issue: Pushing down on the wah on/off causes an obnoxious squeal.  Suddenly mid-song, they came back and it continued at low, thin crappy volume for the rest of the set.

No liquids have been on the FBV, I'm using the provided Cat 5 cable.  The POD has been racked since immediately coming out of the box and has no damage.  Please advise, I went with a modeler to increase reliability over my old tube amp, but so far I'm looking more like a return.

Troubleshooting:
Swapped POD to power amp cable (XLR)
Swapped input cables

New battery in guitar(s) (happening to multiple instruments)
