Dream Rig question for the L2T people..

Recommended Posts

Thank again everyone for the info on how to set up my DT-25 to use in my Dream Rig.    I have the Variax JTV-69 going to my POD HD500X via the VDI cable and then the Line 6 Link cable going from the HD500x to the Link input on the DT-25   I have the amp on Channel A with all knobs set at 12 o'clock.   I have my Master set up at around 12 o'clock as well and just adjust things at the HD500x.

I'm getting some intermittent pops and clicking in the amp (which I bought used), with or without any cables connected.     Is there anything I should check on the amp itself?   I'm not using the low volume setting.   What settings should I have on the HD500x?   There are a few buttons on the back as well as the three switches on top.

Finally, I got a good deal on a Line 6 L2T and will plan on relacing the DT-25 with it.     I will be connecting the Line 6 Link cable to the Link input on the L2T.   What else do I need to configure on the L2T??

Thanks again guys!

Dave

After you replace the DT with the L2t you will have to make sure the output mode and mic/cab selections on the HD500X match the recommended speaker mode on the L2t. You may be used to using the PRE amps on the HD500X and letting the DT provide the speaker cabinet. If you want to continue doing this, set the L2t speaker mode to Electric guitar. In fact, this is the default setting for the speaker mode that is stored in every HD500X preset so there's really nothing for you to reconfigure.

However, you may want to use the L2t as a PA speaker rather than a simulation of a guitar cab. You should at least experiment with this setup. Set the L2t speaker mode to PA/Reference and use the full (not pre) amp selections on the POD preset. Select your preferred mic/cab simulation on the POD.  If you want to go this way for all presets, you will need to reset the stored speaker mode in every HD500X preset. To do this - select the preset, manually change the mode to PA/Reference on the L2t, and then SAVE the preset using the Pod (not HD500X Edit). You only need to do this once for each preset; after that the speaker mode will be reset to PA/Reference each time the preset is recalled on the POD.

In both of the above cases you should set the POD output mode switch to Line, not Amp.

EDIT: the strikethrough text is not relevant using L6 Link.

Thanks for the response!   I'll check things out when I get the L2T tomorrow.

Another question I forgot to ask about the DT-25.   SHould this amp be able to be seen by the Line 6 Monkey?    The only things that show up now are the Variax and POD HD500x...  Maybe the noise, etc are fixed with a firmware upgrade??

Short answers:

The click/pop issue sounds tube related. Possibly best to replace all (and re-bias the power tubes) (EL-84 x 2) to go to a known starting point for your tube set.

Monkey will not see the DT unless connected via USB to MIDI. And you could have a previous version of the DT firmware in there, but I don't think it is a cause of the intermittent noise. People here have had success with M-Audio Uno USB to MIDI interface cable.

I love my Dream Rig with the L2T speaker. I can switch between acoustic and electric tones. I hope you are as happy with your rig as I am with mine.

Be sure your HD500 is up to date on the firmware or you may end up having the problem of the POD switching top combo/stack every time it sees the L2 via the L6 link cable.

Thanks everyone. Got the L2t connected tonight and love it!! I think everything sounds better thought that compared to the amp. Now more question.. What settings do I need to change on the HD500x and how do they get saved? I know you hold the view button down and the menu comes up 1-10. So many differnt parameters to set. Is there anything out there that shows exactly what to set for my set up? (Variax JTV-69, HD500x and L2T?

Once that's done, how do I set up the L2T? I currently have the Line 6 Link cable connected from the 500x and things set to PA/Monitor

What about all those other knobs on the other side? Again, any step by step guide on how things should be???

Appreciate it!

Let the games begin! There is no "should". Use your ears to determine your settings. Welcome to the tweaking stage. One thing that may be helpful is to go to Custom Tone and start demoing patches. Find the ones you like and look at how they are set up. Go from there.

I have to ask… You really think the L2T sounds better than your tube amp? Were you using pre models or full? I have a L2M and 2 DT's and there is no way in hell I would use an L series speaker as my main mode of amplification. I use ONLY for acoustic work.

Nevertheless, to each his own.

good luck

Hi guys, I found the LT2 to be the answer to my stage issues. When I switched to in-ears, the cool amps I own (a lot!) didn't sound as good. I was essentially listening to the FOH... I use my 500 X for studio and those are some nice sounds! So I got a pair of LT2s for stage and set them to Pa/studio out, with an MXR 10 band stomp in the fx loop to tweak for different rooms, and found that the studio sounds were heaven in my in-ears, all the nice nuances were there from the studio, plus acoustic, without the rest of the band messing with my tone. So, yes, in my case, the LT2 is the way to go...
