Help with creating a certain tone

This is my first post and I'm hoping you guys or gals can help me.

I'm very new to guitar (1 year) and I'm trying to create my own personal tone. The hard part here is how to ask for help because Im so new I don't know the right right terms to use and at the same time have to describe the sound in my mind using words, but I'll give it me best shot.

I'm looking for a deep warm sound with a punch. Let me take a step back....I'm playing on an Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro on an Amplifi 150 using skinny top fat bottom strings. I'm looking for a sound that is deep and clear at the same time. The trouble is it seams every time I add distortion it gets too scratchy or crunchy for what I'm looking for.

Music I listen to so maybe trying to recreate is Tool, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Pantera, and Stone Sour. The presets of these bands just are not getting "my sound" right. It seems there is too much treble, crunch, scratch going on. It's like I'm just looking for a good low powerful bass filled sound without the extra side noise that I usually get.

I know almost nothing about all the settings, but have tried my best to try them all out.

I tried my best hope you guys/gals can help, thanks at least for reading all this.

Hi. Yes, all those presets sound scratchy and trebly. When you hear those bands you mention a lot of the hi frequency detail gets lost in the mix with other frequencies, lost being picked up by a microphone, and lost in post recording editing. If I try to get a full fat sound I'll use less rather than more distortion, reduce 'presence' to zero, and will make sure my guitar volume isn't louder than any backing track or song. I also use a pedal overdive rather than one built into the Amplifi, and reduce the treble as much as possible on the pedal. And, just keep experimenting particularly with something like Amplifi as there must be thousands of combinations. Sooner or later you'll find a sound you like.

Not sure if this will help much but each patch is modeled using 1 of 3 different mics.  Try one of the other mic models and see if that gets you a little closer to what you're looking for.

Was unaware what that was, thank you for showing me that. Also I have found that noise gate can do wonders.

Something else to think about. The longer you play, the more control you will get out of both hands. When playing high gain tones, there is a bit of choking that you will need to learn with your left hand and muting with your right hand. Much tone comes from your hands. I just thoought I would add this to the discussion...
