thirtyplus Posted June 28, 2013 Share Posted June 28, 2013 I play in a rock four piece and we rarely mic up amps or anything except the bass drum and snare. At a normal gig I run my M13 using the 4 cable method into my fender blues deville 410. Occassionally we play in venues where the venue owners want to put us in to the house PA also to spread the sound around the venue. The position I like to put the mic at for my amp is 4-6 inches from the grille. This makes it tight on some stages. I was hoping that I could use the right side output on the M13 directly into my pocket pod (using amp modelling with no effects on the pocket pod) and from there DI into the PA from the direct out on the pocket POD. On the M13 I assume I will have to run a jumper from the right side FX send to the right side FX return to enable the stereo output. But in theory this should not be a problem. phil_m Posted June 28, 2013 Share Posted June 28, 2013 It depends on what effects you use after the loop, but you'll most like run into an issue. The thing that you'll run into is that most of the effects on the M13 aren't true stereo. Even though they take a stereo input, they sum the input, process the signal, and then output a stereo signal. So the signal from the DeVille's preamp will be sent to the Pocket POD. In other words, you won't maintain a stereo split throughout your rig. If you could ditch the 4-cable method on the nights you need to go direct, you could plug the Pocket POD into the M13's right output, and you could do what you want to do. I am hoping that I can just have two outputs without using a mic in front of my amp on stage. When you say the effects are not stereo are you saying that they will only come through on the mono output and not the stereo output? Nope... That won't work either. Sending the preamp signal from your amp direct to the board would likely sound, well, not very good. Essentially, when you choose to use the 4-cable method, you're limiting what you can do with the M13's signal splitting capabilities. Micing your amp is still probably the best thing you can do. I'd say if the distance between the mic and grille is what's causing problems, you might want to look into the Sennheiser E609. You can drape it over the front of your amp, and it's very low profile.
