RD1967
I just bought a used hd500x and restored it to factory settings and updated everything. Some of the preset sounds have no sound at all. What could I be doing wrong? - Ron

RD1967
Does it come from the factory that way? If you have one you would have experienced the same thing, correct?
Charlie_Watt
I've had that problem and I can always find something not set up for my inputs.
duncann
Some of the factory presets use the expression pedal for volume. If it's in the heel position you won't hear anything.
pianoguyy
Does it come from the factory that way? If you have one you would have experienced the same thing, correct? YES and YES Besides. Most of us have gotten rid of the factory patches to make room for our own. As long as the unit has sound on some of them, you know the unit works. Its not broken. From the factory, there is an entire setlist for non-guitars, and one for the Variax. Who needs that! Write over the ones you don't like. silverhead
Note that some of the factory presets are designed for vocals. Hence the Input is set to MIC, not guitar. You certainly won't hear anything if you're trying to play your guitar with those presets.
cruisinon2
Factory presets are almost entirely useless anyway...I've heard more pleasing sounds from a wood chipper. Try setting up some patches from scratch, as long as you get sound out of those, then everything is fine.
RD1967
Thank you all for your responses. I upgraded from an X3L to the 500x and it is a completely different beast. I thought it was defective. Your responses helped a lot. Thanks again.
