New Multi FX Floor Amp Modeler?

Only part way through the rather large thread, but Cliff says:

It is not an Axe-Fx. It won't be able to do two amps or two cabs. It won't have things like the Vocoder and other esoteric blocks. It's a stripped down floor version at an aggressive price.

It will have G3 modeling and user IR slots. It has two dual-core DSPs, one for amp modeling the other for effects. These DSPs are slower than the ones in the Axe-Fx so it won't be able to do two instance of amps.

There will be block compatibility between the Axe-Fx and the AX-8 meaning you can copy blocks from your Axe-Fx presets into the AX-8.

It has USB, XLR outs for FOH, 1/4 outputs for local monitoring and an FX loop. Four expression pedal inputs. AC powered, no wall-wart.

The official price doesn't appear anywhere in that thread, but there are a lot of guesses ranging from $1000 to $2000.

There was also discussion about what "aggressively priced" really meant.  The use of the lower spec DSP lead some people to believe that this might be closer to $1000, and when it was pointed out that it will cut into AxeFX sales, Cliff did say that losing 10% AxeFx sales isn't a problem with more sales of a cheaper unit. Lots of AxeFx users said they would get one just for Rehearsals or Fly Gigs where it was too much effort to take the full rack, so there are reasonable number who will buy both.

Got to say that I can't justify £900 at the moment, but realistically I need a better amplification solution before a new Amp + Fx unit.

Hmmm, this puts Fractal AXE in the affordable range - barely.  It's a lot better priced than their normal $3000+ price tag plus almost another grand for a pedal board.

My price point is under $1000.  I'll be on the fence.

I thought the total was around $3000 with the controller? Either way, that's a damn lot of money. Or not, considering a lot of guitar players spend way more than that on pedals, guitars, amps, cabinets, et al.

My hope is this is going to be something that fills in the gap on the lower end between $500 and $3000, like around at most $1000, or a direct competitor with the new amplifire. It's encouraging that it will be using two lower priced DSPs, but It's probably just wishful thinking, though, that will only result in a momentary disappointment upon hearing the reality. Just have to wait and see.
