Any reason to install both Pod Farm v1 and v2.5?

Recommended Posts

(Sorry for double-posting this; I had trouble starting a new thread)

My laptop died so I've had to rebuild from scratch. I have an X3 Live, and bought Pod Farm 2.5 about 3 years ago. Pod Farm v1 Platinum came with the X3 Live, as I recall.

Is there any reason to install both Pod Farm v1 and v2.5? I seem to recall they had separate presets? If so, does it matter what order they are installed in? So far I've just installed GearBox and Pod Farm 2.57 (and Monkey and the drivers, of course).

One reason to install both would be to ensure full transferability and compatibility of tones between the X3 and Pod Farm. With PF v1 the tones are fully compatible in both directions. With PFv2.5 you can upload X3 tones into PF but you can't necessarily download PF tones into the X3. That's because there were improvements in PFv2.5 (e.g. additional routing flexibility) that render tones taking advantage of those improvements incompatible with the X3.

So if you record songs using PF and want to be able to reproduce the tones exactly when playing live with the X3, it might be worthwhile to use v1.

Thanks! I've installed PF v1 now.  I think everything came together as expected, but here is what I see just in case I missed something:

  1. In the PF v2 stand-alone program and the PF v2 plugin I can see the presets from Gearbox, PF v1 and PF v2.
  2. In the PF v1 plugin I can see the presets from Gearbox and PF v1.
  3. With just a POD X3 Live, I never had the PF v1 stand-alone.
  4. In Gearbox stand-alone I see the Gearbox, PF v1 and PF v2 presets, but of course the PF v2 presets are not compatible.
  5. In my DAW (Reaper), I can see the plugins for Gearbox, PF v1, PF v2 and all the PF Elements.
    1. I thought I had the Gearbox plugin installed before, but it wouldn't activate. I dug around and found that I bought it for half price ($50) in Oct 2008 but returned it 2 weeks later because, IIRC, Pod Farm v1 had just come out for free.
    2. I got PF v2.5 for free in 2012 when they discontinued Guitarpost Online. It's the Platinum edition.

Am I correct that with all the PF plugins, I'm not missing any features from the Gearbox plugin?

PF 1.12 replaces Gearbox.

If you have tracks with the Gearbox plug-in you can replace it with PF1 and use the same Gearbox preset.

No versions of PF will work as an editor for the X3, you would still use Gearbox.

The only thing I can think of that may be missing from Gearbox is the hum reducer which I believe was only for the standalone version with the GX/UX Toneport.
