Reamping with the UX2/Reaper

Recommended Posts

My band has just about finished our debut EP and we're reamping... or trying to... again...

Using my Marshall JVM410H (OD1, orange mode) for rhythms only.

The set up is: JVM > BOSS NS-2 > TS808  Tube Screamer > Radial PRO-RMP > Analog Out Left on my UX2 and into Reaper. I've also got a BOSS GE-7 in the FX Loop of the JVM to beef it up a bit.

Everything is muted in Reaper except for the dry rhythm track I'm reamping, which is panned 100% left (because analog out left on UX2).

I get crappy tone unless I'm using the GE-7 and TS808, and even then it's still not as good as when I'm using the same amp+pedal setup with my guitar.

The reamped tone sounds too dry with not enough gain and quite frankly... sucks.

If I put the gain too high (which is one of the reasons I'm not using OD1 red), I get too much hum from the amp. I know the SM57 won't pick it up while the dry rhythm track is being reamped, but it sounds like absolute crap if there's a part where a powerchord is supposed to sustain over a couple of bars.

Any tips? You'd think reamping would be easier especially with a great amp like the JVM410H... And as far as I'm aware, I'm doing everything correctly with the UX2, Re-Amp box and Reaper.

The guys over at the Marshall forums tell me it definitely wouldn't be the amp causing trouble since it runs fine when I'm playing my guitar through it.
