HOW TO HAVE OUTPUT VOLUME EQUAL BETWEEN PACTHES?

I´m trying to have same volume level between diferent patches.

When  I change clean patches to dirty patches I have much more louder volume on dirty.

I try to fix it with the mixer, by lower output on dirty pacthes.

I just want to know if is the better way to do it or not?

ignore the mixer entirely... (that's pretty much just for tweaking the stereo out mix and shouldn't be used as a volume generally)

leave the master volume on the pod hd alone

the channel volume or volume "on the amp" in the pod.

some amps may need more tweaking than others...

and you can always go deeper into the amp settings and use the "master" volume inside the deep edit parameters on the amp.

the main thing is that the POD master volume needs to be basically at the level you want the tones to be....

the end result is that the pod master volume will raise all of your volumes equally when used later.... (after the tone settings have been changed and saved)

keep in mind that there is still volume perception... (if you level them all in your bedroom, they wont sound right at gig volume and vice versa)

that never works for me...

i dont want them to be the same db's

i want them to sound the same volume...

sometimes thats more bass or more treble etc...

which can sound higher or lower in volume regardless of having the same db reading...

(sound perception)

you'll probably be close though...

just don't be afraid to deviate + or - 3db ish

Thanks for your help! Now I use my phone with db meter app to control all patches at same level.

For further info on the master volume control see the pod hd 500 x quick start guide pg. 7 and 8, item#12. It refers to best practices for recording . It recommends using the highest setting possible on the master volume without causing clipping . (Digital distortion)

Also when connecting to recording, mixing and other studio gear, be sure you are plugging 1/4 inch out puts ( if that is what you are using for the outputs) to line level, and not mic or guitar level inputs.

So it is recommending that you set the pod master volume high and the inputs of any audio interfaces to minimum level for the best signal to noise ratio from the pod hd. Make sure the 1/4 out switch on the top of the unit is in the appropriate position as well...(line or amp)

Hope this helps a few people.

P.S. - I did not see this tid bit in the advanced manual so, I posted this, in case some of you missed it in the pilot guide.

For live use going from full amp models to pre amp models can be a level nightmare to wit I use the mixer block.

The mixer is a gain and and also a pan for each side, so you have to raise or lower both in most cases.

On the full amp models you have a preamp and a power amp section.

With a real amp the power amp volume drives the output tubes and  transformer, often desirable.

The HD full models don't respond like a real power amp section without some editing in DEP and then it

is probably only my imagination. LOL

Good Tips all of the above. I usually do the low amp volume level check then a high volume one. One thing is to try and record your playing during a set on stage. This lets you hear how you sit in the mix (assuming the sound dude is somewhat decent) IMO EQ can affect what we hear as volume when it is just a frequency we are not competing for.

Or the trusty "Wife - Meter" for when the patch volume hits a certain Db triggering remote curses from the adjacent room :)
