HD 500x Question?

I'm considering purchasing a HD 500x to use at church because it's an all in ear system and I'm thinking of just going direct out of the HD 500 into the mixing consule. Problem is the sound system is mono (old system).

Can anyone confirm that the left side on the direct out on the HD 500x is a mono signal? Is does not say it is on the back of the device or in the manual. Since I can't run right and left stereo into the board, I need to know for sure that the left out is a full mono signal not one half of effects, amp, etc. being split.

Thanks

I've been doing quite a bit of reading on this since I'm doing something similar to Ken.  I've read that even some effects not listed as stereo ( analog chorus for example ) treat left and right differently, so unless steps are taken, using one xlr out could be missing some of the signal.

Also read about the noise gate with specific settings ( unity gain ) at the end of EACH PATCH, would sum to mono so one xlr out could be used.   Also important to note that if using 1/4 out, set the line/guitar switch to LINE if doing direct to PA.

The other "big tip" I read was set input 1 to guitar and input 2 to variax for best sound if not actually using a variax -- not both inputs to guitar or same. ( and make that a global setting ).

These articles on using one xlr out also touch on the mixer in the effects chain, and cause me to glaze over.  Unless I hear a lot of noise using 1/4 out I think I'll stick to that into direct box.

Yes, the left XLR is not mono but I've been doing this at church for years (sending only the left XLR to the sound board) and have not noticed anything unusual. But I do not use obvious stereo effects (ping-pong delay, for example). I think you'll be just fine for more "normal/typical" types of signal chains. You can certainly try it to see if it satisfies. It's worked fine for me. My typical signal chain is compression -> wah -> overdrive -> amp -> mixer (everything centered - the signal is mono at this point) -> delay -> reverb. So the only stereo effects you'd be losing is due to delays and and reverbs.

Stick with the XLR out, and program your patches accordingly. For that matter, since the PA is mono, you could set up a dual signal path in the HD500x, and run "dual mono", IE two different signals from the HD500x intended to be both panned center, instead of in stereo.

The mixer balance controls (They are NOT always pan controls) in center "can" give you stereo output....Whether or not it is stereo depends on what is in the chain and where...The dual paths between the amp(s) and mixer blocks are actually dual stereo paths....

You can run dual stereo FX with pans centers....As duncann indicated, if you stick a mono FX model like the noise gate, the chain will be mono after that point....If you stick a NG on the A chain right in front the mixer, then the A balance control becomes a pan....If you have some stereo effect like the ping-pong before the mixer block on chain B, then the B balance control remains a balance control...

I'll try the single xlr out and add a noise gate at the end since I only use 4 or 5 patches.   List of stereo/mono effects:
