fieldtest
So I am having some confusion following the routing in the HD500X So as I understand it there are two kind of AMP Models 1) Full Amp Models e.g Threadplate (Pre Amp + Power Amp + Cabinet -> Model) 2) PreAmp Models e.g ThreadPlate Pre (Pre Amp + ?? -> Model) So my first question would be do the Pre Amp Models just model the Pre Amp section of the amplifier in question adding any cabinet specific modeling to the Pre Amp Sound ? Not sure this makes sense. The second question is regarding effects placed after amp models e.g a Delay or Reverb. When this is processed are the effects applied to the final signal coming out of the miced modeled amp cabinet or are they applied in a "Effects Return" Kind of way between the pre amp and the power amp ? Thanks for you replies
wilson69978
I believe the manual recommends using the "pre" models if you are going into a real amplifier. The power amp in the real amplifier would supply the rest of the tone. This is just a recommendation as I understand it, and not necessary. As far as the second part of question about effects, the answer seems to be... It depends. There are many ways to route the effects and this topic causes a lot of confusion for people ( myself included) lol. The best thing to do I think is to comb thru the manual and the forums on this subject till You find something that resembles what you are trying to do. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but everyone's setup is unique. If you give more details about the amp you own and how you expect to use the effects I know many guys here will offer advice . Good luck!
NucleusX
1. Yes, its just the pre-amp that's modelled and the the power amp section is omitted, although, I never understood why the cab and mic parameters are still present in this mode, can always bypass them. Usually Pre models are used so you can continue to use your guitar amps power section, with its pre-amp bypassed, but I've found some pre models can sound pretty nice with FRFR type speakers. 2. Very good question, I always assumed post amp affects where processed after the ampsim section, but this wouldn't seem logical in the real world situation, where post amp effects are usually smack bang between the pre-amp and power-amp sections of a traditional guitar amplifier's signal chain. The routing schematics don't seem to offer any clue's there either, someone else may know.
wilson69978
Well I guess there is nothing like checking for yourself is there? I am gonna tinker around with some pre and post effects mixed and matched with pre and full amp models and see what I can hear.
NucleusX
I don't think any amount of tinkering will clarify that to a %100 certainty. I think this one is gonna have to be answered by D.I. if possible, He should have access to the technical knowledge concerning internal routings of the POD HD. fieldtest
Thanks all you guys for your replies, that makes it clearer. My current setup is the POD HD500X directly into a pair of KRK nearfield monitors which made me think of the second question. Would have been nice to be able to emulate the real world scenario of placing effects between the pre and power amps but it seems not to be possible.
