Switch between studio and live sound

Allright, so apologies if this has been asked before recently. If so, please link the thread. 

I've recently started to record home demos using the POD HD, and I want the sound of the recordings to be at least close to how I sound live. Currently I'm using the POD through a Peavey Valveking Halfstack which sounds pretty good combined, but of course the use of an amp rather than going through a PA adds a lot of "power" to my sound, at least in my experience. 
Quesiton is, if I am to have almost similiar sound when recording with only the POD as when using the amp, how would the two presets differ e.g. how would one change the eq or the preamp to makeup for not using an actual amp when recording? I know this differs from setting to setting and the different types of amps, but some experience/advice from someone with a similiar issue would be great!

consider using the pod DIRECT-->PA on lives.

this way u get the same sound (it's like connecting an mp3 player with ur recorded sound).

in any case, the sonic impact of each venue has a (great?) impact on the sound.

I do it old school.  I put an SM57 mic in front of my amp and record it.  Sounds just like it does when I play live.  I'm like you, I use the PODHD into a Marshall half stack.  Nothing like the roar of tubes into a 4x12 cabinet.

The whole 'going direct' thing is the best way to go. But, it will sound different. Nothing will ever sound the same. Close, but different. Even Mp3's sound different through a concert pa vs your home computer speakers. Close enough, but not exact. 

 

And, you know what... 

You can go direct to the recorder and to the pa so that the listener can have the same-sound experience. But then, you can still use your own amp to hear yourself if you want. It will change what you hear on stage, but not what others hear because it won't be mic'd.

stage sound is ALWAYS(?) (small acoustic venues excluded) different from pa-->audience sound ; 

stage sound is even different 4 each band member...

 

however, nowadays silent-stages offer close approximation via IEM (in ear monitors), provided the console(s) has(ve)  the capability of two separate mixing arrangements (one is the audience mix, the other is stage monitoring);

 

if recording is required, then a 3rd mixing arrangement must b available (preferably flat, so post processing-eq'ing will b later applied in the studio)...
