Finally updated my firmware... got quite a surprise.

I updated the firmware yesterday. It went flawlessly. No problems whatsoever... until I reloaded my patches.

I've noticed that a lot of the patches that are on my website sound a bit different now and are also a lot louder. I will get around to updating them as soon as I can. Please bear with me on that.

I suppose that positive spin off is that I'll tweak them slightly and try to get them to sound a bit better.

I'm about to get the new model packs and will feature them in my next video in the series.

Cheers,

Peter.

Double check all of your settings in the System Setup pages....If you followed the recommendations and reset the global variables in your POD, then all of the global setup values are initialized...InputZ and output mode are the main ones to check that they are how your prefer them to be.

Yep, I did check them but the patches do sound slightly different. It's not a big hassle though. The few that I've tweaked so far sound really amazing.

I'll update the new ones on my website as soon as I've done them all.

Thanks.

You're not the only one that says --- it sounds different. Overall, the unit sounds better.

But no one can pinpoint how or why it sounds better. Even people who analyzed with sprectragraphs and stuff. We don't see any real change.

I didn't notice any difference when updating.

Is the global EQ turned off?

By default the Global EQ is ON.  And with default settings there really is no audible difference with it ON or OFF.   pfsmith0 has measured the actual difference though and there is a difference in extreme low and high ends between ON and OFF but not anything that should be discernible to the average human ear.

But also remember that the existing fw code had to be optimised to ensure the Global EQ would fit within existing DSP available and again that should not have changed the sound of anything BUT the code has changed between fw releases.

Some people have reported that their existing patches do sound different under the new fw - and most have said they think they sound better.  Others have reported no difference detected.  Hearing is very subjective.  So maybe it is just in our heads or maybe there is a subtle change introduced with the combination of optimised fw and GLOBAL EQ that some people are picking up on.     Don't think we will ever have a definitive answer but as long as things are improving then I guess that doesn't matter.

See, I debate that.

Just because a machine says that your ear shouldn't hear something doesn't mean the ear doesn't hear something.

I knew I made changes, so it could have been in my head that something sounded different.

But when I took it out and played it for others who didn't know that I made changes, they thought I made changes.

So yes, overall the unit sounds better. But better is not the same. Same is the same. Better is better.

I agree - I thought my unit sounded better after the upgrade - I should have added the word "apparently" to the sentence.      :)

It's not so much that they sound different. They "sound" pretty much the same but the patches are extremely loud. So much so that they seem to be clipping.

It could just be my unit (and I have gone through all the settings) but as I said it's not a big deal. It's just a matter of "taming" the levels.

I did not have to reload my patches after updating even though I bundled and saved them. Everything remained the same just sounds better. I used Monkey and followed every prompt exactly. Also my PC has no virus crapola on it.It went super fast and smooth like creamy Skippy Peanut Butter!
