Floorboard switch fault

Recommended Posts

I have been having a little trouble with my floorboard lately- having opened up the unit and cleaned the micro switches with switch cleaner, tightened the PCB screws, checked the seating of the PCB interconnects, cleaned the RJ45 socket, tried a new cable, and reset the POD 2.0, I am left with one consistent issue.

The 'Channel Select'/'Effect on/off' mode lights do not light after startup (although they do light with all the others when turning on the POD with the board connected). The board will be in 'Channel Select' mode, so I can cycle through the banks and select a channel. However, if I want to enter a patch to alter the effects, drive, or boost functions, the 'Channel Select'/'Effects on/off' switch will not take me into the other mode, but simply show that the patch has been edited, showing an 'E' next to the Bank number on the board and 'edited' on the POD itself. Selecting a patch will return things to normal, but I am left without the ability to alter any of the effects in my patches. Particularly troublesome as I would usually use the 'boost' within a patch for solos.

Is there a simple explanation or easy fix for this behaviour?

Many Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy,

I recently picked up a used Floorboard to use with my 1st Gen Spider amp. I had a similar issue and found a combination of things helped.

1.) Try several different Ethernet cables and make sure the connection is solid.
2.) If you are handy with a soldering iron (low wattage though), you can re-solder the microswitches.
3.) Not all cleaners are equal. I use DeOxit F5 Fader spray cleaner on all my electronics with excellent results (scratchy pots, dirty connectors, etc).
4.) If all else fails, you can replace the microswitches for about $1 each; $9 plus shipping for the whole board.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Tom
