Pod Hd And Kb37 Crackle. Help Needed!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I've used a kb37 for years and set it to default device on my pc so it would process all my sound. It started crackling slightly a while ago but wasn't too much of a problem but got worse. I recently upgraded some parts of my pc (better cpu, better power supply, more ram) but its even worse.

If i just have one song on its normally ok but if for example i run other programs like open a youtube video it just starts to crackle like hell - it does not do this if i run my speakers straight into my computer.

Everything i said above is exactly the same for both the kb37 and my newly acquired pod hd (bean).

This surely cannot be down to an overload on my pc, so i'm at a loss.

Pc spec:
Windows 8
Intel i5 3570k 3.4ghz with water cooling
16gb ram
850W power supply with dual 12v rails

PLEASE help I am trying to put together a home studio but cannot currently seem to process anything more than a song playing.

i had a new machine do this too... do a search for dpc latency checker....

have that running then try to use it... if it spikes into the red while playing (and the issue occurs) its something else on your system...

i tend to also have the task manager open so that i can see what might be causing the spikes....

another thing to try... get slimdrivers... make sure that the more obscure drivers are up to date on your system.

yeah i have task manager open and i get big cpu spikes whenever i open a web page or whatever but i guess this is normal. It spikes up the same if i open and normal website or a youtube video but only get the crackles if its a youtube video.

I will try your suggestions now. cheers.

ok i tried dpc and got spikes into red when performing different tasks but no sound crackle or break up until i started playing music and opening youtube videos. It's surely a problem with the kb37+pod because my sound is perfect if im not using them

When not using it.... you probably aren't using the USB for sound either... unrelated....

have you tried other browsers such as chrome or firefox? one of them may use a different method of playing youtube....

just trying to isolate the issue.

Did you try updating all your drivers as Zap suggested, especially chipsets and mobo?

I had an issue where I would get crackles only when viewing Hi Def video files form my camcorder and updating my graphics card drivers fixed it.

Yeah i updated everything via Slimdrivers as recommended.

I was looking in device manager and it says that my usb root hubs have 500 mA of power. The KB37 uses 498 - So i tried to spread my usb things around so it wasn't sucking power from the line6 but to no avail.

Would a pci usb card provide more power to the usb ports rather than coming straight from the mobo?

USB 2.0 can provide up to 500 mA, dependent on the power management of your mobo and other USB devices or pc hardware drawing current going.

USB 3.0 can go up to 900 mA (I think).

But the power still comes from the mobo's power management, with the exception of USB cards that have an extra HDD power connector.

But sometimes the POD Studios don't play nice with USB 3.0, I tested my UX2 with USB 3.0 and had no issues.

btw, have you tried all your USB ports and removing all other USB devices?

Yeah tried that.

Now as well as the crackling the KB37 (which as i use to process my sound) is randomly just cutting out all sound. The power is still on and it is still connected etc. but sound just stops working until i restart.

I'm pretty sure ive turned off all the things in the usb settings which allows it to shut off things so no idea whats going on!
