I made a couple improvements to my 59

Recommended Posts

I bought a Korean JTV-59 in May. Within about 3 weeks I noticed a few issues I couldn't live with, so I returned it to Sweetwater and was sent a replacement, which was MUCH better.

So I've had the replacement Variax for about a month and decided it was a keeper. Time to put a little money into it...

I couldn't get the action low enough without some notes choking out on both the High and Low E strings, so I dropped the guitar off at my local shop for a fret-dressing. Just picked it up today, got it home, and viola! Much better. Oddly, the modeling seems to sound better in regards to the palm-muting at hi gain on the Lester model. dunno.gif

Anyway, another thing I always do to my poly finished guitars is to knock the gloss off the neck with green Scotch-Brite pads. If any of you guys get sweaty hands while playing and you've never tried it, you should give it a whirl. It makes a huge difference in playability. I followed the simple procedure in the video below.

I love this guitar now!  :D
