Podxt Live (output Level) Thru Blackstar Fx Loop

Recommended Posts

I'm curious, FX Loop users, how high do you guys generally set your output level when running thru an FX Loop? I suppose I should ask how you're setting your channel volume as well. Just do it like normal: til it clips and then back off a bit and then set the actual output level?

The manual says I should set the output as high as possible to avoid noise floor issues, but I'm finding I can't turn it very high at all without overdriving the Blackstar. Not much at all. A very small amount past 1/4 and it starts to distort. Is this a typical setting for you guys?

I am running it as "power amp 2x12" with output set at "line", so no problems there. Also, the Blackstar FX Loop is switchable from +4dbv/-10dbv. I'm using -10 as the +4 is usually for rackmount stuff.

Thanks guys!

i'm sure someone will be able to help you out... patience...

you have to realize that the XT is 10 years old, so it doesn't get as much traffic here as the newer pods...

No one has any suggestions? None at all? Why is this the only help forum where no one wants to help? Kinda defeats the point, no?

I realize I sound like a complete A-hole, but this isn't the first time I've encountered this here. I had another acct years ago and went thru the same thing with almost every post. The trend seems to be: the fewer posts you have the less help you receive. Please....pretty please with hemi 'cudas on top.... someone give some insight...

I can assure the amount of posts you have has nothing to do with responses.

Typically when there aren't many response it is because it is a low traffic area and/or nobody that read it has any good advice to offer.

But if you are distorting that easy I would try the +4dBv.

As for the output level make sure to try and set it on your loudest patch.

Trust your ears, if it sounds good at whatever level, go with it.

Thank you. Honestly, thank you.

Indeed, I have the channel volume as far up as I can get it without clipping. I am just using the Memory Man delay with everything else bypassed, and then adjusting the output from there. (Which is why I found it odd)

I'll try the -4dv setting. Seems the most logical next step.

Not to sound arguementative, but I'll hold fast to my theory. Certainly there are exceptions to be found, but the ego of a guitarist (usually the average one, which is ultimately ironic) is not to be underestimated. Why bother reading help topics if you're going to be selective in who you help? Surely they're not all here to learn from others mistakes and problems. I'm not buyin that one. There, my hat is now in the psuedo political ring. ...and I sound like a bigger A-hole than before. Brilliant!!!

Note to self: No one understands your black humour dude, so why bother? (There will always be a few young padawan, there will always be a few....)

I didn't think you came across as an a-hole, not yet anyways, but I guess there's still hope?

There will always be those that suffer from self-center-lead-guitarist-egos.

But in my experience the majority of the community wants to contribute and/or help, and lack of responses (from what I have seen) are either because it's a stumper (therefor the selectivity of assistance is due to lack of knowledge/experience to contribute to the post) , or it is a lazy post that begs a RTFM response. Of course that is my personal perspective, and I mainly hung out in the POD and Computer Based Recording forums.

When the XT series came out, its sub-forum was ultra-super-hyperactive.
