M20D - First gig impressions.

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to say...  :)

We played our first gig with the M20D, Easiest setup I ever had. I set all inputs before. Did the auto trim thing, did a quick mix and then done. It should be even easier next time. Everyone raved about the sound. The presets definitely are excellent at separating all of the elements. Wow, that is great gear.

I got the wifi to work right away with an old iPad, the USB-Ethernet and an ancient wifi router that serves DCHP. Everything exactly as advertised. No wonder I have so much line 6 gear.

It is rare to find gear that exactly does what you want. Excellent job Line 6. Hope it works for many years.

Cheers,

Jim

After our recent large gig (1000+) where we also had to act as PA supplier and operator for ourselves and the other two bands I have also found myself looking at the M20d especially as up until yesterday I could find it around £840.

The other incentive is that I have to tidy up and distribute the Zoom H1 recordings from rehearsals and when the recording is just mud from the Bass Guitar, Kick and low-end from the Acoustic Guitar all combining together it can be a real challenge to get anything listenable; but if I had the individual sources all recorded then it should be quite easy to mix them together to get a stereo out (that I would have to record in real time).

Plus we currently cancel rehearsals when one person can't make it, but I have seen people talking about using rehearsal or live recordings to fill in the missing person at a rehearsal. And the ability to do "everybody except me" recordings for practising against or taking the separate tracks into a DAW and trying alternative arrangements.

Damn - I appear to be talking myself into it... looks like Helix might be pushed back a bit

It's gone back up again - sometimes you have to be quick!

Now £940, yesterday was Out Of Stock (no price), day before was £839.95 with 1 in stock.

That second one - is that backup or to try these options?: http://line6.com/support/topic/9055-can-you-join-two-m20d-together/

OK , I ordered my second mixer from Thomann yesterday. It is primarily intended as backup, although I 've never really experienced any problems with the stability. I usually have an analog mixer in the car in case something should occur, but in a given situation it is of course much easier and faster to just move the settings to a new M20d and continue. Some gigs are quite critical, and I really don't need to get in a situation where I have to rig a totally different mixer and do the soundcheck all over again.

My first mixer is an early version, hoping that some reported 'childhood diseases' are fixed after that. Having said that, I definitely also want to test some scenarios with two mixers in parallel.

I recorded all inputs for the whole show and spent a most productive two hours tweaking and saving a better mix. I just can't get over the separation that the presets give you. Best live mixer I have ever used.

The channel solos did notwork as I expected. Is it possible that they only go to the headphone buss?
